See where your attention really goes.

A study assistant that tells you the truth about the session you just had. Alt-tabs to instagram or cute cat pictures no longer get swept under the rug.

Apple Silicon Mac · free while in beta · window titles never leave your Mac

A finished session titled Quantum mechanics problem set 3, tagged Physics. It reports 39 minutes on task, 4 off task and 2 idle, then lists every window that was in front: griffiths-quantum-mechanics-ch4.pdf in Preview marked on task, hydrogen atom notes in Notability marked on task, a spherical harmonics search marked related, Instagram marked off task, and a blank new tab marked unclear.
One session on quantum mechanics, every window that was in front, and how each one was judged against the goal.

How it works

State the goal. Run the clock. See where your attention actually went.

Name the task

Uses this to judge whether you are on task.

Start the clock

Gives the option for Pomodoro-style timers, or not. Checks your window title every time you switch.

Read the session back

Afterwards you get the sesion feedback as it happened: what held your attention, what took it away, and for how long.

It works without a connection. Legere records the session exactly as it would online; only the judging waits. Reconnect and it asks about the windows it could not judge at the time, then folds them into your totals. It never takes a screenshot to catch up — that window is hours gone, so a picture now would only capture whatever is on screen now.

Privacy

What leaves your Mac, and what never does.

Never leaves

  • Window titles and the record of what was on screen.
  • Your discipline scores.
  • If signed out, nothing leaves.

Does leave

  • Reading a new window: the app name, that window's title and your stated goal. They pass through Legere's server on the way to the classifier model. We log token counts only.
  • To sync your account: the session record, including your goal text. The window titles are not part of it.
Messaging, mail, calls and password apps are never sampled at all. Legere does not read their window titles, and it discards the app name too, because the fact that a messaging app was open is itself something about whoever was on the other end. They reach the timeline as the single word “Excluded”. Deleting a session deletes its record of your screen with it.

Pricing

Free while it is in beta. There is no subscription yet.

No card, no trial that quietly converts, no tier gating.

Things to consider

Things worth knowing before you install it.

Legere is version 0.1. These are the sharp edges we know about.

macOS only

No Windows, Linux or iPhone build.

It needs Screen Recording permission

macOS puts window titles behind it. Without it the timer still works, but nothing gets read.

Reading windows requires an account

Signed out, Legere is a local timer that records your windows and never judges them.

Attention history stays on one Mac

Sessions sync; the record of your screen does not. That follows directly from keeping it off our servers.
