Abhinav Java

I develop ways for language models to efficiently find, use, and learn from large unstructured data sources. My work spans retrieval-augmented generation, efficient post-training, and vision-language models.

Before CMU, I was a Research Fellow at Microsoft Research India (with Amit Sharma and Nagarajan Natarajan). Even before that, I worked as a Research Associate at Adobe Research, and did an undergrad in CS at Delhi Technological University where I got to collaborate with the MIT Media Lab.

I'm responsive over email and happy to chat about research, collaborations, and grad school applications.

Beyond the lab

Football
I've played my whole life. Currently washed but used represent my high school and college teams.
Mentorship
Had the best time mentoring several research interns at Adobe.

How it started
My first NeurIPS workshop paper started as a question about neural network statistics, and a serendipitous collaboration with Yannic Kilcher.
