Faster startup and note switching

Octarine now restores your workspace as one complete surface instead of revealing it piece by piece. The active route, sidebar, panes, tabs, and editor are prepared together, while background integrations wait until the workspace is ready.

• Cold starts now restore the last valid workspace and route before the main interface appears.
• The visible sidebar, pane layout, active tabs, and current note are prefetched so the workspace can paint with useful content sooner.
• Switching between recently visited file tabs now reuses their mounted editors, preserving cursor and editor state while making tab changes feel immediate. This also means that you can undo changes even if you switch to a different tab and come back to the original tab.
• Note previews in Views, Calendar, hover cards, and note sheets now reuse cached read-only editors and prefetch on deliberate hover or focus.
• Secondary editor tools and non-visual startup work now load after the first paint, reducing the amount of work on the critical startup path.
• The system tray, updater, Git integration, embeddings, model discovery, and other background services now start in staged tiers after the workspace becomes usable.

Performance

• Views reuse bounded queries and indexed values, reducing database work while keeping filters current.
• Tag filters now use indexed membership lookups, improving tag-heavy workspace queries and Ask Octarine searches.
• Inactive metadata trees are mounted only when needed, reducing sidebar work for folders, tags, attachments, and related sections.
• Locked-note state in the file tree now comes from the existing frontmatter cache.
• Document statistics are calculated once and shared by the editor features that display them.
• Note sheets defer temporary editors and reverse-neighbor prefetching until the immediate interaction is complete.
• Property sections avoid repeating metadata-boundary calculations during editor updates.
• Custom themes, system fonts, changelog data, updater state, and other read-through data now use shared query caches with explicit refresh behavior.

Task scheduling and moving content

Tasks can now be scheduled into dated notes without losing their connection to where they came from.

• Schedule a task or a complete task subtree to a daily or weekly note from the task controls.
• Scheduled tasks include a wikilink back to the source note.
• Move multiple selected task subtrees together while keeping nested tasks attached to their selected parent tasks.
• Move any editor selection into an existing note, alongside the existing option to extract it into a new note.
• Note and folder move actions now share a consistent searchable picker across the editor, Inbox, file tree, and other note surfaces.

AI

The model picker has been redesigned to make provider, model, and reasoning choices easier to understand without crowding the prompt box.

• Models are grouped more clearly by provider and display the appropriate provider branding.
• Supported models now expose a reasoning-effort control in the picker, including the effort levels reported by Codex.
• A new Settings → Preferences → Hide all AI lets you hide visible AI buttons and menus without disabling AI features or their keyboard shortcuts.
• Suggested prompts, local model discovery, custom endpoint models, embedding availability, and model capabilities now refresh through shared caches rather than duplicated window state.

Sharing Shared-note status now comes from the Octarine sharing service, while the Markdown file retains only the durable share identifier.

• Share visibility, expiry, title, summary, and lifecycle state now reflect the current server record.
• The share popover shows authoritative loading and expiry information before offering actions.
• Legacy sharing fields are ignored and hidden without silently rewriting every note; explicit share changes can clean them from the note being updated.
• A View Dashboard button is made available in Settings → Sharing, to view all your accounts shared notes in the web.

Improvements

• Octarine now restores every full workspace window with its previous workspace and route when the app launches again.
• Wikilink suggestions can now preview the selected note’s hierarchy.
• File-tree context menus now include “Copy Octarine URL,” making it easier to create links that open a specific note in Octarine.
• The in-file search toolbar can be dragged to a convenient position, and its position is retained.
• Command bar results have a cleaner, more focused layout and note search is capped to keep large workspaces responsive.
• Inbox status, priority, tags, and other triage controls are grouped into a more compact control row.
• Sidebar and calendar separators have been refined, and pane splitters use less visual space.
• Input focus borders now use the secondary theme color consistently across destination pickers and other common controls.
• Property rows no longer force horizontal overflow when values or controls are wide.
• Duplicating a View now preserves its existing settings.
• External-document windows now check whether the source file still exists before saving or closing.

Fixes

• Fixed autosave resetting or writing stale content back after an editor was programmatically updated.
• Fixed Calendar previews flashing during incidental pointer movement or remaining open after selecting a date.
• Fixed Inbox navigation opening duplicate preview tabs and corrected “Open in New Tab.”
• Fixed the Quick Capture shortcut so pressing it again closes the capture window and restores focus to the application that was previously active.
• Fixed a scroll-area update loop and unnecessary scroll-position notifications.
• Fixed missing external documents trapping their popout windows behind an autosave error.
• Fixed an issue where CMD/Ctrl + A in a note with a video would not show the selection styles.
