Internet Speed Test
Measure download speed, latency and jitter from your browser to the nearest Cloudflare edge — no app, no ads, no install.
Measures the connection between your browser and Cloudflare's nearest edge. Results vary with Wi-Fi, VPN, and time of day. Run twice if the first number looks off.
Three numbers, three different problems
Download speed (Mbps) tells you whether a 4K stream or a 2 GB game patch will saturate your line. It is the headline figure and the one ISPs advertise, but it is rarely the bottleneck for everyday browsing.
Latency (ms) is the round-trip time of a single small packet. It is what kills Zoom calls and Counter-Strike. Anything under 30 ms feels instant; over 100 ms feels laggy; over 300 ms is unusable for real-time apps.
Jitter is the standard deviation of latency. A connection with 40 ms ping and 5 ms jitter feels stable; the same 40 ms ping with 40 ms jitter is misery. Wi-Fi interference and overloaded ISP backhaul show up here long before they show up in download speed.
How to use
- 1
Plug in if you can.
Wired Ethernet usually doubles Wi-Fi speed and halves jitter. Test wired first to know what your line is capable of.
- 2
Close everything that streams.
YouTube tabs, video calls, cloud-sync clients all eat bandwidth and skew the test.
- 3
Sign in and start.
We need sign-in only to deter abuse from automated bots.
- 4
Run it twice.
The first run warms the network stack. The second is the real number.
- 5
Compare to your plan.
If you pay for 500 Mbps and measure 80, the issue is usually your Wi-Fi router, not the ISP.

What 4K streaming really needs
Netflix says 15 Mbps, Disney+ says 25. What those figures quietly assume about your household.
How much data an hour of streaming uses
4K runs to 7 GB an hour. The arithmetic that turns that into a monthly cap.
Why live sport breaks at kick-off
A live stream has no buffer to hide behind, so jitter matters more than raw speed.
Slow uploads? Compress first
Many 'slow internet' complaints are really 'huge image' problems.
Convert before uploading
WebP is 25-35% smaller than JPG — fewer megabits over the wire.
