My friend S mentioned this past Saturday that her tomato plants already had fruit on them.  It made me take a closer look at the ones I had planted and sure enough 4 out of the 5 tomato plants are in fruit as pictured above!  The 5th plants has lots of blossoms so hopefully it will fruit soon.

I decided to start fertilizing them.  The 2 basil plants are doing well too.

Although it is free

Image

I saw this cabinet on a recent walk with a friend.  Upon closer inspection, we didn't think it was good quality, with veneer sides.  It was free and you would need a proper truck to take it away.

Flowers and Tomato Plants

Image

My friend S dropped off 3 new tomato plants and some annual flowers a few weeks ago.  I told her she was keeping me busy with planting!

From left to right: Pear tomato (plum variety), a couple of Juliet cherry tomatoes (plum/cherry hybrid), some annual flowers, including a begonia plant.  I had previously planted 2 san marzano tomato plants (plum variety) and 2 basil plants. She told me the tomatoes will get bushy and I would get tomatoes in July.  She doesn't protect them from critters and some will get bitten but whatever.  I am hoping the 2 basil plants do well for the summer as that will be it for them when winter comes.  The tomatoes are also just for the summer.

I also really enjoy cutting tarragon and mint from the yard, not really a garden just a few herbs. I suppose I am forming a garden now.

Canada anemone

Image

This Canada Anemone has been doing well in my yard.  It is a wildflower  that I used Google lens to help me identify.  I had got a plant at a garden booth at some event many years ago.

It is my birthday today, sometimes the longest day of the year!

City Festival

Image

We were on a walk a few weekends ago and happened upon the city festival.  Many years ago we would enjoy the Saturday morning parades and enjoy the shopping and food offerings later in the afternoon.  The skies were clear although there was an air quality warning at the time due to wildfires in Western Canada drifting over us.  The air quality had improved to fair but I think my throat felt scratchy when I got back home just saying.

Garlic Chives

Image

Our next door neighbour dropped off some garlic chives that grow profusely in his garden.  They are good with eggs and stir fry dishes.  I shared them with my friend S and with my sister.

It's a wonderful time of year isn't it?

He is a cutie!

My grandson was born towards the end of May!  The OB doctor had scheduled an agreed induction date, having decided that as she was borderline high blood pressure and borderline diabetic and that the baby was a good size it would be better for all.  Daughter L had a smooth delivery, it seemed to go perfectly.  We are all overjoyed.  He was 8 lbs 2 oz, 52 cm.  She highly recommends the epidural pain killer, it helped immensely.  She ended up knowing her anaesthesiologist from high school!  They greeted each other by first names and he asked if she was ok with him administering the epidural as they knew each other.  She did not care at that point.

It has been a busy time and we are helping out where we can.  Breastfeeding is a hard job for the mom with little rest allowed.  Daughter L and her husband are already such good parents.  I ended up getting them some newborn onesies as 0-3 month clothes didn't fit.  The ultrasounds can be misleading, pointing to a 70-90th percentile baby!

He is a cutie and we are overjoyed as are family and friends!  Baby C is here!

For the Dinner Date, I found a 3 ingredient brownie recipe that turned out to be very delicious.

2 very ripe bananas (I used thawed frozen bananas)

2 eggs

3/4 c cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

pinch of salt

1/4 c diet syrup (I added this as I felt it needed more sweetness)

Mash bananas, add eggs, diet syrup, then add cocoa powder, baking powder, salt.

bake 350F 40-45 min in a small pan lined with parchment paper.

I used Steeves Maples sugar free Syrup from this site.

Did you know this?  If the diameter is smaller you can just cut small pie slices.  Thanks youtube!
