The sudden fall
Well son K and I were out for a walk on Aug 21 when I tripped somehow on the sidewalk and landed hard on the grass with my right arm extending straight out. The impact winded me and I ended up hurting my right shoulder. Husband M took me to a walk in clinic nearby as my doctor's office was closed by that time. They thought it was a sprain but ordered an x ray just in case. The X-ray lab was closed by that time so the next morning we had it done only to be told to go to the hospital next as it was a shoulder fracture.
Emergency care at the hospital can take some time so we went prepared with snacks, water bottles, but it only took 3 hours. I asked them to look at my right foot where the instep had started to hurt the night of the fall. That took extra time to have an x-ray and cat scan but nothing was broken. I was fitted with a splint and told the fracture clinic would call me the next week to follow up, I will need physiotherapy probably. I may have to wear the splint for 6 weeks. (... to be updated after my appointment.)
The challenge is to go about daily tasks using one hand. Fortunately it is my dominant hand. Interestingly we were asked to use QR codes to sign up at the walk in clinic and at Triage at the hospital. Times have changed.
As an aside I remember the splint guy saying summer is their busiest time in emergency. He said they get many e-bike injuries. I had mentioned how happy we were with their service knowing how busy it is there.
Update:
I went to the fracture clinic Aug 28 for a 7.30 am appointment with an orthopedic surgeon. He recommended surgery so I am scheduled for next week! They did a shoulder CT scan for confirmation. It will be a 6-8 week recovery followed by at least 3 months of physiotherapy. Surgery for me will need plate and screws as opposed to getting a new shoulder. The nurse said I should do a bone density scan later on through my family doctor to check my osteoporosis risk due to this event.
I put these details in my blog for handy future reference. In fact, I referenced my blog to check the date of my last surgery (hysterectomy) when I was filling out the hospital form.

For the Dinner Date I am showing my mini cheesecake with a sour cherry compote topping which I made last month with sour cherries from a tree in my garden. I made the mini cheesecake using this recipe. I substituted low fat creamcheese and low fat sour cream.
Here is the sour cherry compote recipe:

Ripe tomatoes
I spotted this tomato plant with lots of ripe cherry tomatoes while walking by someone's front yard. You may be able to see some in the photo above. I wondered if the owners would pick them. On my way back past the property I saw a young man walking in the yard. An older woman was sitting on the front porch. I pointed out the ripe cherry tomatoes to the young man and suggested he could pick them. I hope he did.

Suddenly
A few weeks ago husband M got a call from a good friend. He relayed the news that another good friend had suffered a stroke. They were able to visit him in hospital three days later. It was a very emotional visit. The friend had lost his peripheral vision in one eye while the other eye is blurry, it seems the stroke was due to a buildup of plaque in his brain stem. He still has frontal vision but cannot read and will never be able to drive again. He was able to go for a bit of a walk that morning. Naturally he was still in shock having collapsed on the golf course only 3 days earlier.
His cholesterol levels were sky high as was his blood sugar so it appears he had not been taking good care of his health. So he is now on metformin and cholesterol meds and will have to make lifestyle changes. They cannot operate on his brain stem as it is too risky for him so it will be blood thinners for life. He is 64 years old.
This is yet another wake up call everyone, health first!

On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, mix all ingredients on top of the trout fillets.
Bake on 350F 20 mins or until the fish flakes easily with a fork

Ikea Summer Special
Husband M went to Ikea last week to take advantage of their half price meals that they have been running all summer. The meals are $4.50 Canadian so he decided to get 2 of them. Some people were getting a fish and chip meal as well as their meatball meal. The construction workers are very happy, a lot of them eat at Ikea.

Thyme
I was at daughter L's house and pulled this plant out of some decorative stones. It smelled good and so I used Google lens to identify it. Turns out it is thyme! So I planted it and hopefully it does well. It is a perennial so can live over winter. L must have more of these plants in her backyard growing legitimately.

An Interesting Question - What do you say?
I clearly remember my 18 year old self. They were good, carefree times for the most part, a time of growing and learning to be an adult.
Picture yourself at your current age, and you run into your 18 year old self. What do you say?
Here is my interpretation:
'We made it!'

The joke's on me
A few weeks ago I was walking along and noticed what seemed to be a dead chipmunk. In fact there was another one lying on the sidewalk a few streets over. I sent this photo to some family members saying how sorry I was for these poor chipmunks. They took a closer look and told me it was a rat! Indeed it is. In my defence, I wasn't looking too closely as it is a sad picture.
My family had fun with this one.
In fact my daughter sent me this photo of a groundhog saying 'look at the size of this chipmunk mom!' and I was totally fooled again by my cheeky daughter.
