Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date - Bewitched Theme

Welcome to Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date!  The theme is Bewitched this week.  Here is my ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") in watercolour pencil with the stars in acrylic.

For the Dinner Date I roasted some broccoli with onions.  I realized I like the onions sliced lengthwise as pictured. We then eat them as an extra vegetable, so flavourful.

Ingredients:

2 crowns of broccoli cut into smaller even sized pieces including the stems.
2 onions sliced lengthwise
2-3 cloves of garlic minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
2-3 tbs lemon juice
1/2 tsp dried herb such as tarragon
3-4 tbs olive oil

Mix all ingredients together on a sheet lined with parchment paper.

Preheat oven to 400F.  Bake for 20 minutes.

Bone Marrow and a fake post

I had a post on Sunday about seal platforms in Norway, which turned out to be false. I did not fact check sorry. Thanks to Kay for notifying me.

Grandson C started eating solids earlier this month having got the ok from the family doctor.  He was able to sit up in the feeder chair and had good head control.  It was a success!

Daughter L did some research and decided bone marrow was a great food to start with, full of nutrients and iron.  She baked the bone marrow for 40 minutes then removing the marrow and juices, then she blended it is pictured.  Grandson C loved it. My daughter is a foodie so he has been watching her eat and no doubt couldn't wait to get a turn!  She has stored the marrow into food sized portions for about a month.

Daughter L then boiled the bones for 2 hours and ended up with homemade beef stock which she strained and stored.

I heard that liver is next.

The lost cat

Image

Earlier this month our neighbour across the street knocked on our door one night.  Their inside cat had gone missing and they were so worried.  He must have been able to get outside somehow. The neighbour asked if he could check our back yard, so husband M took him there to no avail.  The next morning he came to ask again if we had seen anything.  I feel their pain although I am not a cat owner, it is like a family member.  After about 20 years, we exchanged contact info.  That must be a good thing.

They posted the missing cat Tako on the neighbourhood website, I posted his photo here.

In a bit of good news Taco was found about a week later in a neighbour's back yard.  It had started to get colder so it was a happy day.  The neighbours brought us this card and chocolates to thank us for our help.  We didn't do much but it was nice of them.

Beatlemania concert

Image

We got free tickets to a Beatlemania concert on Oct 3rd and it was well timed in terms of a celebration of our 37th wedding anniversary on Oct 8th.  I am not all that much of a Beatles fan but the band was excellent and we enjoyed their music.  In fact they got a standing ovation at the end and gave us a 6 song encore.  I would say they were 'jamming', really enjoying themselves and it was infectious.

In the following days, I found myself humming their catchy songs, then I started playing them on Alexa in the mornings.  Maybe I am a Beatles fan now.

Friday Art - Stingray

Image

Welcome to Friday Art! This is the underside of a stingray.  While it looks like his eyes those are his nostrils.  His eyes are on the topside, not shown here in this ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") in watercolour pencil.

Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date - Fog theme and Angie's Prune Ketchup

Welcome to Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date's 'Fog' theme!  Here is my piece inspired by photos of fog over the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.  It is an ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") in acrylic and watercolour pencil.

For the Dinner Date, I made Angie's plum ketchup as I happened to have plums on hand that day.  It is flavourful and tangy, I think it will be good on sandwiches, even burgers.

In fact, I spread the plum ketchup onto my grilled cheese sandwich and it was tangy, flavourful with a spicy kick.

Hemp Hearts

Image

Image

Daughter L  encouraged us to finally try these hemp hearts. The seeds are good sprinkled over lots of food items.  It seems to have a multitude of other uses.  When I looked at the nutritional benefits I was amazed at all the vitamins and minerals it contains. You just need a small amount per serving.

Welcome to Rain's Art and Dinner Date's Bubbly theme hosted by Rain. Here is my ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") in acrylic and watercolour pencil.  I went with bubbly pink champagne.

For the Dinner Date, daughter L made these healthy chocolate cashew bites.  I liked them.
