Inspiration

Within the internet lies many creatively helpful resources that would make otherwise strenuous and arduous tasks become finished within minutes. However, people with one of the various colorblindness would struggle to navigate it like the average person and thus, instead of helping, the internet would instead cripple. Our goal for this website is to spread awareness about colorblindness.

What it does

With the power of both quality research and coding, our website will shine a light on the problems that assail colorblind people. Integrated within our website are interactive buttons that can change the colors of the website depending on the button clicked, and also give information about each type of color blindness. In conjunction with the java scripted buttons, the clean and simple HTML and CSS help to enlighten viewers about color blindness.

How we built it

We built the project by combining HTML, CSS, and JS together to create the website. We used HTML and CSS to create the layout of the website. We used JavaScript to enhance the website further, such as the color scheme changing buttons that help viewers to see the website from the perspective of a colorblind person.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge that we ran into was the immense amount of code that we put into the project, this caused some elements to become lost within the mountain of syntax, but luckily, we organized it and got right back to it. Another challenge was figuring out how to color SVGs, originally, we only knew how to color divs using JS but after doing some research, we now know how to customize both.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we're very proud that we managed to work together very fluidly and not procrastinate.

As individuals, Ethan's proud of implementing the color scheme changing buttons. Though the buttons had some minor bugs in the beginning, in the end, he managed to create something that he's very proud of. Chris is proud of successfully finishing the project before the submission deadline.

What we learned

The majority of ideas and tools that we learned during this hackathon were gained from the problems provided by the project. Examples of some of the abilities that we've learned include coloring SVGs using JS, how to use JS on HTML path tags, and some other interesting JS DOM manipulation techniques.

What's next for Color Blindness

In the future, we hope that we can update and advertise this project to a greater amount of people, in order to alleviate some of the problems caused by colorblindness.
