The project consists of two plastic parts, as shown in the design sketch, in addition to the display and steering wheel. The additional component around the turn signal switch and its connection with the two previous parts is still missing, which could not be completed due to time constraints.

During the modeling process, the typical construction tolerances commonly used by most automotive companies were taken into account:

  • Curve fit distance : 0.001 mm
  • Maximum gap G0: 0.01 mm
  • Normal angle G1: 0.01 mm
  • Curvature continuity G2: 0.01 mm

Gaps between parts of 2mm have also been respected, as is usually standard in interior automotive components (1-3 mm), and 1mm in the case of the joint between the upper and lower sections of the screen support. Regarding draft angles for demolding a minimum radius of 2.5 mm has been established, along with 1º draft angles to facilitate part assembly and tooling direction. However, these parameter could be modified depending on the supplier´s requirements.

A material similar to the one shown in the image has been applied to both object, and their geometric and visualization normal orientation have been properly organized as required. This allows the models to be imported into a visualization software for rendering as Vred or Unreal.

Regarding manufacturing process, injection molding or 3D printing is commonly used in industry for producing this type of parts.
