Inspiration

In 2011, we took inspiration from the curious wooden burr puzzles everybody loves and created a Flash game called "Interlocked". Then in 2012 we released it to mobile, and it was played by millions of players worldwide. We always knew it would work great to be able to touch the puzzles, and VR is the game's natural next step.

What it does

Interlocked: Puzzle Islands is a burr puzzle disassembler game, with a collection of puzzles made (and licensed!) by puzzle designers from all over the world. Take apart these puzzles to progress in the story and find the roots of Puzzle Islands.

How we built it

Interlocked: Puzzle Islands is built with Unity.

Challenges we ran into

The puzzle piece drag and drop mechanic in Interlocked, and the gameplay physics, had to be very specific and exact to get the feeling just right. The gizmo that opens up when dragging puzzle pieces was an interesting challenge to solve for VR!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Interlocked: Puzzle Islands strikes a balance between being a casual, relaxing puzzler, and a deeper game where you befriend a little bird. Initially we weren't sure we'd be able to add story sequences to such a simple puzzle game. But we're really glad we did.

What's next for Interlocked: Puzzle Islands

The game is scheduled to release during 2026. We have more puzzles we're hoping to release at a later date potentially as updates or DLCs!
