Inspiration
This is a simple statistical implementation dubbed LOLPI(League of Legends Power Index) that has leaned into ideas from ELO rankings and ESPN's SPI.
What it does
It ranks Teams across Tournaments, the entire Globe and also Head-Head based on games played across periods of time.
How we built it
The implementation calculates LOLPI based on an aggregate of various metrics for any team and player statistics. This provides a snapshot of a team's performance at any desired point in time and can always be recomputed on demand. Each team starts off with a fixed score but they are evaluated at the end of every game.
Some of the metrics used include:
- Team wide metrics like Win/loss, Average KDA, Objective Score and Average Game duration.
- Player metrics like creep score, participation in objectives and role specific KDA.
- Relative strength of opponents.
- Impact of a win/loss in a recent game.
- Recent Form (Time decay).
Challenges we ran into
Big, beautiful datasets. Needed a lot of resources and time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Basic implementation is working. Improvements are planned to add finer details like tracking game metrics across the entire game (segmenting games by time blocks).
