Inspiration

We were interested in the visual simplicity, and technical complexity of the .io style game. Real time multiplayer is infamous for its challenge and we wanted to try it out for ourselves. This is a first for us in terms of making a real time multiplayer game in godot.

What it does

This is a game where you can play against your friends to try and score points by capturing castles and stop your friends from scoring points by throwing apples at them.

How we built it

The frontend is written in godot and compiled to wasm The backend is written in rust using tokio The project is hosted on a free Oracle Cloud ARM instance Very cool gitlab CI/CD pipelines were setup in order to automatically update the website and the live game server.

Challenges we ran into

Half of our team had to leave after the 7th hour leaving just the two most dedicated monks. We had many challenges, especially when you are tired and slowly more and more problems are self inflicted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The game works, as in you can go to the website and just play it if you want. James made some of the coolest CI/CD pipelines I've ever seen, you would be impressed!

What we learned

Adding support for mobile is too much effort. Sometimes fewer people working on a project makes it a lot easier.

What's next for Mission: Monkpossible (team 10)

Back to the monastery for us, we have some chanting to do and some hitting ourselves in the head with planks to do aswell :)
