Inspiration

We were inspired by games like Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario 3D World when designing our 3D platformer! Both games do a great job of mixing simple controls with creative design and fun mechanics. We liked how each level introduces new ideas while still keeping the gameplay easy to understand. That approach influenced how we designed our own game, especially when it came to movement and defending against enemies.

What it does

It’s a 3D platformer where you play as a team of tiny and adventurous space aliens, hopping from planet to planet just for fun! But one day, you notice a planet being taken over by a giant corporation, and suddenly your adventure turns into a mission to save a world out of nowhere! You explore vibrant worlds, and work together to make sure this planet isn't going to be gone anytime soon :D

How we built it

We built the game mostly in Roblox Studio, using a bit of Blender for some of the models. Most of our ideas started on Google Docs, where we thought out levels, mechanics, and fun little details before bringing them to life in Space Buddies. It was a mix of planning, experimenting, and just seeing what felt fun!

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was definitely the coding! Making all the movement, interactions, and platforming mechanics work smoothly on a custom character took a lot of trial and error. We had to figure out how to make sure the controls felt good and fix bugs that popped up when different parts of the game interacted with one another. It was frustrating at times, but also really satisfying when things finally clicked!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re really proud that we actually finished the game, and that you can play it all the way through from start to finish! After all the late-night coding and brainstorming, it feels amazing to know someone can jump in and just have fun with friends! Also the combat system is a great feature, which is something we never touched, and knowing that it's been proving consistent results shows that we've learned a lot so far!

What we learned

Planning our ideas, building levels, and figuring out mechanics taught us how much work goes into creating something actually playable and fun. We faced challenges along the way, especially with coding issues and problem-solving, but seeing everything come together and actually work was incredibly rewarding! Most importantly, we learned what it feels like to finish a project and share it with others :)

What's next for placeholder

More planets for sure!! Space buddies boutta learn more martial arts
