Inspiration

  • We wanted to make a tool that could assist veterans with loss of concentration due to PTSD and Combat Stress. When veterans come back, they still have passions and aspirations they want to pursue, and this will help keep them focused for short sprints.
  • Both of us are practitioners of pomodoro
  • Wanted to make an impactful tool, given our status as students, useful to all of society as well as veterans

What it does

  • Device that assists with studying or working on tasks, leveraging 25-minute intervals with 5 minute short breaks and 15 minute long breaks after three short breaks have passed

How we built it

  • We used the Arduino kit provided to wire a LCD Screen to display the study timer, as well as the break timer. We have 2 LEDs, a green LED on during study time, and red LED for break time. The user clocks the button to begin the timer and turn on the LEDs. We also used a potentiometer to adjust the contrast of the screen to allow the user utmost adjustability.

Parts used:

  • Breadboard
  • Arduino Uno
  • Wiring
  • LCD Screen
  • 2 LEDs
  • On and Off Switch
  • Potentiometer
  • Three 220 ohm resistors
  • Two 5k ohm resistors

Challenges we ran into

  • Wiring issues in our LCD screen: Due to the multitude of wires connected it was easy to plug into the wrong row of breadboard
  • Limited resources with the starter kit: We weren't able to find our buzzer part and needed to borrow a couple male-female wires from teammates

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Getting a working timer, tested for 6 hours straight while we were asleep!

What we learned

  • Troubleshooting hardware requires faith and perseverance

What's next for Pomodoro Timer

  • Implementing more features, such as a buzzer
