Do you ever wish there were captions for day-to-day conversations? We have created Watch-a Say: an ios app which allows you to see what people are saying on real time.

Inspiration

Difficulty hearing English for non-native speakers and "wishing there were captions for everyday conversations"

What it does

Discreetly allows you to understand someone else's speech by reading it off your Apple Watch. Although, during the hackathon we only finished the iOS app for it to run on iPhone.

How we built it

We used SwiftUI on XCode

Challenges we ran into

Many. Never having worked on iOS, WatchOS, or MacOS app development before, we spent the first 4 hours of the event just downloading and installing necessary updates and tools. Much of the remaining time was also spent looking through the existing documentation and filtering out the ones for deprecated technologies.
