I am so very serious when I say that minors should have a legal and easily reinforceable right to say “I don’t want to live with my parents (or other adult caretakers)/I don’t want to be around that person/I don’t want to go to that place” and actually get their wish accommodated. So much childhood trauma could be avoided or ended if children actually had the right to leave the situation or the person hurting them.

this is totally possible and not all that hard in the grand scheme of things btw but our governments will never do it because it necessitates some kind of process for caring for people that capitalism is incompatible

I originally posted this 2 months ago on a different platform. I wrote it in present-tense, and I haven’t edited it to match the current timing. I’m reposting it here anyways because I think its important and I never posted it to Tumblr.

The Australian Labor Party just approved the largest gas project in the country - the North West Shelf expansion to Woodside’s gas operations in Murujuga (aka the Burrup Peninsula). What does this mean?

Currently, Woodside operates a gas plant in the north of Western so-called “Australia” that produces more emissions than New Zealand, Ireland, Norway and Bolivia combined every year. This is called the Burrup Hub.

Six years ago Woodside put in a request to expand their NWS gas project until 2070 - fourty years longer than it was initially meant to be in use for. This expansion has, obviously, been the target of constant, explicit, science-backed scrutiny and protest for those six years.

Murujuga is the home to the world’s oldest artistic depiction of the human face and more than a million ancient rock engravings carved in over the last 50,000 years or more. Murujuga was selected as the original location for the Burrup Hub was going to destroy important ancient art.

The WA government claimed not to know about the art at Murujuga. Approval to use this land was sought from the colonial government in the 1960s, and construction began in the 1980s. Over this time, Woodside has stolen thousands of important pieces of historical first nations art.

As well as this Woodside has destroyed thousands more, including five thousand pieces of rock art - large amounts of which are tens of thousands of years old and tell important stories we will never even be able to guess the contents of now they’re gone.

This theft and construction follows a massacre of first nations people in Murujuga early in colonial so-called “Australia” where colonisers murdered, and in at least one instance raped, Jaburara people en masse. Estimates reach up to 150 victims murdered by colonial police and residents.

The three first nations groups who lived in the area prior to colonisation were never asked permission regarding the construction of this gas hub.

Following the Mabo decision and therefore the introduction of Native Title claims into colonial “Australian” law in 1993 three nations of traditional owners, specifically the Ngarluma-Yindjibarndi, the Yaburara-Mardudhunera and the Wong-Goo-Tt-Oo people, made claims to the land.

In 2002 the colonial government extinguished these Native Title claims, removing the first people’s legally enshrined rights to their own land.

The MAC, an organisation designed to represent these people, said “many Ngaarda-Ngarli did not want to sign the agreement [that reduced their rights] but felt they had no choice as the State Government made it clear that industrial development would go ahead regardless.”

Now, 23 years later, the Labor government - who presented themselves as a more progressive alternative to the Trump-emulating Liberal-National Coalition - continues to facilitate this ongoing theft of land & history from its rightful owners, committing an ecocide in the process.

UNESCO has instructed the government to prevent more development. Local first nations people have begged the government to prevent the destruction. Protestors blockaded and occupied for years. Labor did not listen.

Now, a country already plagued by the effects of climate change, in the only state with no 2030 emissions reduction target, is going to approve the biggest gas project of the country’s history. A project known to destroy climate and everything around it.

Labor is killing people. The burden is now on us to DISRUPT BURRUP HUB

My friend Ishtar had a botched gender reassignment surgery in 2023, and needs help getting it fixed! She’s been looking for a very long time to get it done, and has been repeatedly ghosted by surgeons “due to what’s been described as the worst case of neovaginal stenosis ever seen”.

Ishtar has finally found a surgeon willing to help her out, but she needs to raise $40,000 as soon as she can. She’s put off asking for help for a very long time now because she’s worried about taking away from other important mutual aid funds, but she’s finally put one up for herself.

Please help this trans woman, active union organiser, mutual aid contributor, ex-sex-worker, dedicated anti-racism campaigner, and more live the life she deserves.

really not sure when it happened or why but personally I’m pissed that the queer community at large seems to have given up ground on the “people with penises/vulvas/testes/ovaries” language to sex & gender essentialists in exchange for the much less precise, much more demeaning “AGAB” language.

is it because you’re scared of the word vulva? of acknowledging out loud that some people have penises? of recognising that many many people, including but certainly not limited to trans people, have mixed sex characteristics that cannot be accurately summarised by “afab/amab” as shorthand for “female/male”?

“in [GENITAL RELATED] situation AFABs will need to do X and AMABs will need to do Y” there are “afabs” with penises and “amabs” with vulvas. Saying this shit makes you look so unserious & honestly transphobic (given the ongoing erasure of post-op trans people within broader community). Intersex people and GRS have both existed for long enough (fucking forever and, decades, respectively) that we should well past making this basic fucking mistake.

quit referring to people by a vague & often violent event that happened at their birth as though it defines ANYTHING about how they & their body currently operate, and start using precise language so you at least look like you know what you’re fucking talking about.

this logic should also be used for hormones!

as it stands im not on oestrogen, but im going to be soon, so i end up talking about a lot of testosterone vs oestrogen changes, and one of the effects of this is a lot of people will say “women get x” and “men get y” which is ignorant towards NB people and also inaccurate in a lot of cases.

im often referred to as a woman, and that isnt entirely correct (gender is hard), but i wont fit in the category of “women get x” because im not on oestrogen yet. something like “people with oestrogen have their fat arranged like this whereas people with testosterone are like this” is a lot more accurate because it reflects my gender and hormones more correctly but it also is more inclusive of non-binary people
