Thousands of assets are being removed from sale on the Unity Asset Store. If you own one or more of the affected assets, you should have received the following email:
Hi,
Due to updated regional licensing, distribution, and compliance policy requirements for publishers in the Greater China Region (including Hong Kong and Macau), one or more of your Asset Store assets will no longer be available for purchase on the Global Unity Asset store, effective March 31, 2026.You’ll keep access to these assets in your projects, but you won’t receive ongoing support from the publisher(s). If you run into any issues, refunds are available upon request with details below.
Key Updates:
- After March 31, 2026, assets from publishers based in the Greater China Region will be removed for sale from the Global Unity Asset Store.
- Our records indicate that at least one asset in your library is from publishers based in the Greater China Region.
- Your impacted asset(s) will remain available in “My Assets” and will continue to function as they do today but after March 31, the publisher(s) will no longer be able to update the asset(or) or provide support through the Global Unity Asset Store.
- Your license to use these assets remains valid, and you can continue to use the products in your projects and download them via Package Manager in the future.
- Only assets from publishers based in the Greater China Region on the global Unity Asset Store are affected.
What should you do?
- Check affected Assets: See which of your assets are affected here.
- Support: If you have any questions about the ongoing support for these assets, we recommend contacting the asset publisher(s) directly before March 31st.
- Refunds: We are making an exception to our refund policy to extend the time allowed for requesting refunds. If you have purchased an asset on this list in the past 6 months, you can request a refund. Details on the refund process can be found here. After a refund is issued, however, you will lose entitlements to that asset.
- Project Continuity: The Global Unity Asset Store still has over 100K assets for your project. Click here to browse other art or tools for similar function alternatives.
If you have additional questions about this change, please reach out to Unity support.
The Unity Asset Store team
Unfortunately, beyond informing you that you have an impacted asset, Unity have provided no tools to inform you which assets are impacted, requiring you to compare your assets against the thousands being removed. Thankfully a user has stepped up and created a tool that does exactly that for you. Details from the Reddit announcement on /r/Unity3d:
Unity is removing all assets from Greater China Region publishers on March 31, 2026. That’s over 3,000 assets disappearing from the store.
Since unity doesn’t tell you which of your assets are getting removed, I built a quick scanner to check which of your purchased assets are affected:
How it works:
- Export your assets from Unity Asset Store (copy-paste a script in browser console)
- Upload the JSON file to the scanner
- See which assets are affected + refund eligibility
The tool also shows if you’re eligible for a refund (6-month purchase window).
Everything runs locally in your browser – no data sent anywhere. Code is open source.

This split between Chinese developers and the rest of the world is certainly going to be an annoyance for Non-Chinese developers, but for Unity developers based out of the Greater China region, the Unity Asset Store is going to shrink to a literal fraction of it’s existing size.
