  • A Bunch of Updates

It’s been a while. Last October saw a hint of what was to come with the reworking of user album pages. Since then, I’ve been working on a major overhaul on both the front and back end of the image rating sites. Though it may look similar to before, most everything has been completely rewritten. Pretty much all aspects of the site should now be faster, more secure, and easier to use.

Here’s a couple of the changes that you may notice:

    • Visual Cleanup: Most of the existing features have been completely rewritten to work better on modern browsers and have a cleaner, fun, and more modern look and feel.
    •  A brand new recoded image scroller: The new version supports resizing, smart jumping, and is much more robust and easily extensible than the old version.
    • Speed Improvements: Page and image loads should hopefully be noticeably faster on frequently accessed pages.
    • Uploads:  Drag & Drop uploading is now possible. The upload page has been redone to be easier and more intuitive to use.
    • Privacy Levels: Have a pic you just want to show someone, and not the entire site? Make it unlisted!
    • Security & HTTPS: Multiple changes in the backend to enhance account security. In addition, HTTPS is now on by default to secure your communications in transit.

… and there’s more to come!*

*probably. Time allowing. I still have a dayjob.

  • I Should Probably Update This

Service has been restored to it’s original glorious capacity… about 3 months ago. Woot!

  • Unexpected Downtime

A short whlie ago, our webhost shut down without much notice and we are forced to use some temporary hosting. For now the site has been crippled slightly to conserve bandwidth while we search for a webhost that provides a large amount of bandwith at a decent price.

  • Moar Updates, and Mobile Friendlyness

Service utility pages such as the login, registration, and recovery screens don’t get many relative pageviews, therefore they’re typically pages that have seen the least updates and other love over the past years.

Today, they received a big dose of love with most of the login and registration service pages updated to look a bit more modern and actually be usable with mobile devices.

Aside from the cosmetic update, some of the user login and session code has been rewritten to hopefully get rid of the long standing ‘login failed’ bug. I’ve also replaced my old own lightbox code in favor of the SimpleModal plugin which looks to be very promising.

  • MultiFile Uploads, editKeys, and More!

Big update to the upload stuff, as well as a ton of bugfixes and tweaks.

    Here’s the lowdown:

    • Mobile uploads work again
    • Multi-uploads! Upload up to 5 files at a time. (zip support could be considered later if I get around to it)
    • URL uploads! Upload from another location on the web
    • Subfooter (bottom linky bar) layout changes
    • editKeys - editKeys will be used by anonymous users to delete and manage their upload.
    • CSS cleanup - it’s a little better now
    • New Upload Results page

    Enjoy!

  • Big Changes you Won’t See!

We’re running on some beefier server space provided in a custom solution by NullRoutes. Load times may be a little high for the next day or two while the thumbnail cache rebuilds…

The other big change is also on the backend… SNS has grown to the point where a flat file system for data storage was becoming burdensome  Along with the server change, a round robin data storage system was implemented, and all the old data migrated.

These changes ensure the sites are a step closer to smooth scalable growth on demand.

Total rewrite of the Top rated page last weekend.
There may be a few bugs in there still… particularly on IE. -.-

  • Moar Updates

Progress continues on migrating the site towards nice clean OO code, small steps at a time…

    Engine:

    • New upload handler (if you’re getting any “File type not accepted” errors when uploading real pictures, let me know!)
    • Some cleanup of internal logging stuff
    • Improved theming support
    Theme:
    • Fixed the footer bar. Was driving me nuts…
    • other minor fixes not worth mentioning
