It’s been a while. Last October saw a hint of what was to come with the reworking of user album pages. Since then, I’ve been working on a major overhaul on both the front and back end of the image rating sites. Though it may look similar to before, most everything has been completely rewritten. Pretty much all aspects of the site should now be faster, more secure, and easier to use.
Here’s a couple of the changes that you may notice:
… and there’s more to come!*
*probably. Time allowing. I still have a dayjob.
Expect some downtime this weekend of Jan 15-17th as we migrate to some more robust hosting…
Service has been restored to it’s original glorious capacity… about 3 months ago. Woot!
A short whlie ago, our webhost shut down without much notice and we are forced to use some temporary hosting. For now the site has been crippled slightly to conserve bandwidth while we search for a webhost that provides a large amount of bandwith at a decent price.
Service utility pages such as the login, registration, and recovery screens don’t get many relative pageviews, therefore they’re typically pages that have seen the least updates and other love over the past years.
Today, they received a big dose of love with most of the login and registration service pages updated to look a bit more modern and actually be usable with mobile devices.
Aside from the cosmetic update, some of the user login and session code has been rewritten to hopefully get rid of the long standing ‘login failed’ bug. I’ve also replaced my old own lightbox code in favor of the SimpleModal plugin which looks to be very promising.
Big update to the upload stuff, as well as a ton of bugfixes and tweaks.
Here’s the lowdown:
Enjoy!
We’re running on some beefier server space provided in a custom solution by NullRoutes. Load times may be a little high for the next day or two while the thumbnail cache rebuilds…
The other big change is also on the backend… SNS has grown to the point where a flat file system for data storage was becoming burdensome Along with the server change, a round robin data storage system was implemented, and all the old data migrated.
These changes ensure the sites are a step closer to smooth scalable growth on demand.
Total rewrite of the Top rated page last weekend.
There may be a few bugs in there still… particularly on IE. -.-
Progress continues on migrating the site towards nice clean OO code, small steps at a time…
