Chemainus Awaits You

Tucked between Victoria and Nanaimo on Vancouver Island’s scenic east coast, Chemainus is a seaside town that turns a simple drive into a memorable experience. Just off the Trans-Canada Highway, this hidden gem is an easy stop — or a perfect small-town base for exploring the Cowichan Valley, Salt Spring Island, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach.

Famous for its outdoor art gallery of more than 70 larger-than-life artworks, Chemainus is a place where creativity spills into every street. Visitors stroll Willow Street with its cafés, boutiques, and heritage charm, or wander through Old Town and Waterwheel Park down to the marina — where ferries connect to Thetis Island for beachcombing and kayaking adventures.

Stay for the night (or a few) in one of the town’s Victorian-style bed & breakfasts or boutique hotels, and you’ll quickly understand why many travelers turn their pit stop into a mini-vacation.

In the evenings, the Chemainus Theatre Festival brings professional live performances to town, while the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society fills summer weekends with open-air concerts in the park. Add golf at Mount Brenton, hikes through Askew Creek Park, and bike rides on the Cowichan Valley Trail, and you’ve got a destination that blends art, nature, and relaxation in perfect balance.

Whether you’re coming from Victoria, Nanaimo, or anywhere in between, Chemainus is easy to reach — and even easier to fall in love with.
