A walk down to the Chelmer and the gypsy ponies were there in full force, 18 I counted, the foals growing well. The mothers are fat and sleek, and I notice a stallion amongst them. A quick canter down to the old leat by a black pony, the foals leaping and dancing like rocking horses come alive, jostling and pawing the water, life is great fun at the moment.
What else did we see, butterflies and dragonflies, a swan bottom feeding on the river, its own elegant behind creating ripples and circles of eddying water. And that water so clear and beautiful, the leaves of the water lilies swaying gently beneath the water, and lots of fish both big and small swimming amongst the greenery.
