I saw the Super Mario Galaxy movie some time ago, and after delays I wanted to post my thoughts about it.

I thought it was a good, harmless movie that did what all movies should do and added/did more compared to the previous movie, like having more fun references such as doing a recreation of the iconic Bowser bridge battle.

That is why I was surprised to hear a lot of people are panning it hard, as while reflecting I have noticed a few flaws, it was still overall entertaining. I wonder if this is revenge because I remember something similar happening to when the first movie came out, as people/critics wanted it to fail for some reason but they couldn’t convince people it was.

That is not to say the movie is perfect. When I watched the movie the only thing that bugged me at the time was how I felt the dinosaur scene went on too long. That Warts scene was also a bit long too but luckily not as boring as the Dinosaur scene.

I also agree that it would have been nice to see Rosalina do more AND have another method that leads to Peach learning of her origins besides a book. Maybe Luma tells Peach she is his aunt when he arrives, and learning she has a sister drives Peach to see her long lost sister alone at first. Maybe there could have been more scenes of Rosalina trying to escape, or she's using some kind of magic to telepathically communicate with Peach to tell her to find her before Jr's plan causes chaos everywhere. It also would have been nice to see a minor storyline of Mario and Luigi taming Yoshi or something like that instead just becoming an instant pet.

I also would have loved to have learned about the threat that caused Rosalina to hide Peach and why she never tried to contact her afterwards, especially so since at the end of the movie they spent who knows how long together rebuilding the castle, which for all we know has made the evil find them again and is on its way. It is definitely going to be the topic of the next movie, but it would have been nice to get a bit more detail. With Daisy making a cameo at the end of the movie, and she does have a connection/history to some kind of space enemy that IDK the name of in the Mario franchise, maybe that character will be the big bad.

I was okay with Bowser becoming evil again as we know it was coming. BUT I do hope that in a 3rd movie he does use the lessons he learned in between the first 2 movies and shown at the beginning of Super Mario Galaxy to become better, as I do like that headcanon saying that years later he and Mario become chill enough and it allows him to be invited for parties and go karting. I can seeing Bowser and Jr. being recruited to aid the next big bad of the 3rd movie, but the events of the story makes Bowser realize he should try and be better and help Jr. walk a different path so he doesn't face the same consequences he has had to endure.

One thing I LOVED about the movie was that unlike how last year Nintendo (I think specifically the American branch) stated Mario and Peach are “just friends” to fit with how they were depticted in the first Super Mario movie, ONLY FOR GALAXY TO IMPLY THEY LIKE EACH OTHER! Let's hope Illumination keeps this up and in next movie there can be some proper romance between them.

I knew there was always going to be a Nintendoverse in the Mario movies and Fox confirming he is from another universe is good, as this means other Nintendo properties not already seen in the movies could appear one day. My Super Smash Bros movie idea could indeed happen one day.
