It was great to attend the Health and Life Sciences Parliamentary Showcase this week, chaired by Rt Hon Andrew Stephenson CBE and hosted by Steve Yemm MP. A clear theme across the day was how AI in healthcare is moving from innovation to adoption at scale. Our Medical Director, Dr Rosie Godeseth, discussed what it will take to move from reactive to proactive, preventative care, highlighting three essential shifts: 💡 Dedicated funding and accountability for prevention, so long-term health investment is not competing with acute care 📊 New evaluation frameworks for predictive medicine, to properly assess probabilistic risk and real-world impact on health outcomes 🧬 Genomic data infrastructure treated as a national capability, enabling secure, lifelong use of genomic data across prevention, care, research, and innovation As highlighted throughout the day, the science is already there. Genomics has been covered in GenomeWeb!🚀 The article discusses the new feature we just launched on Mystra - the world's first and original AI-enabled human genetics drug discovery and development platform, with the world’s largest and most diverse genotype-phenotype database. Mystra was built as part of Genomics’ Life Sciences offering to revolutionise the drug discovery process, which has a 95% failure rate. Our new multi-trait colocalisation (MTC) feature, powered by proprietary MystraColoc technology, enables faster and more in-depth data exploration for drug target discovery using Mystra. 🧬 The tool analyses genetic signals between thousands of traits simultaneously to identify which ones share a causal variant - revealing which genetic variants might be involved in disease development, and therefore, could be potential drug targets. Until recently, this process has only been possible via approximate methods, often using only two traits at a time. In our newly-published whitepaper, MystraColoc demonstrated superior accuracy compared to the most widely used MTC method. Genomics at Scale: From UK Science to Real-World Impact The UK has quietly built a global lead in genomics. The question now is whether we can scale it. In a recent conversation, Professor Sir Peter Donnelly (CEO & Co-Founder, Genomics) set out to Sian Jarvis, how advances like polygenic risk scoring are moving from cutting-edge science into practical tools for the NHS and global pharma. A few takeaways: • The UK has already sequenced 500,000 genomes and is running world-first newborn screening studies • Genomics can now deliver medically actionable insights in ~70% of cases, up from 1–2% just a few years ago • Chronic diseases account for ~70% of NHS England spending — making early prediction a major opportunity • Polygenic risk scores can identify disease risk years before symptoms appear, enabling earlier intervention • NHS policy is shifting toward prevention, with genomics at the centre of that strategy This is no longer theoretical. Genomics Limited is already working with the NHS and pharma to apply these tools in practice, including real-world pilots where over 98% of patients found the insights useful. The challenge now is scale. That means: → Turning scientific leadership into commercial strength → Embedding genomics into routine healthcare pathways → Building UK-based companies that grow globally while retaining talent and IP As Health Minister Dr Zubir Ahmed MP put it: “When companies like you succeed, our country genuinely succeeds.” With genomic data set to exceed 500 million people globally by 2035, and the NHS expecting half of healthcare interactions to be informed by genomics or predictive analytics, this is a defining moment.
