The Bemidji Pioneer recently wrote an article entitled, “25 in 25: Pioneer unveils Quarter Century Team featuring local sports legends. Let's repeat that: “local sports legends.” The list included BSU alum Gunnar Olszewski who plays in the NFL for the New York Giants and Zach Whitecloud, a BSU hockey player who won a Stanley Cup with the Las Vegas Golden Knights. Also on the list…KBUN's own Joel Hoover. According to the Bemidji Pioneer, “Joel Hoover, the iconic ‘Voice of the Jacks,’ is about as Bemidji as you can get.” Congratulations Joel!!! #Bemidji #Sports #KBUN1045fm

Hubbard Radio North recently celebrated the 2026 NAB Crystal Award that was awarded to KBHP-FM/KB101 in Bemidji. This is KBHP-FM’s unprecedented seventh NAB Crystal Award. No other radio station in the country has won more than six. Much of KBHP-FM’s application centered on Hubbard Radio’s response to the Derecho wind storm that devasted the community of Bemidji in June. The area around Bemidji lost an estimated 9,000,000 trees. Thousands of homes and businesses were damaged, causing hundreds of millions of dollars in destruction. The Hubbard Bemidji team immediately activated, becoming the center of communication for rescue and recovery operations. The event in Bemidji was hosted at the Bemidji Fire Hall and featured presentations from Mayor Jorge Prince, Fire Chief Justin Sherwood, United Way Executive Director Danae Alamano and United State Senator Amy Klobuchar. The event ended with Senator Klobuchar presenting the 2026 NAB Crystal Award to Kev Jackson, Dave Brooks and the staff of Hubbard Bemidji. While talking about the key role that the Hubbard radio stations played in communicating vital information in the aftermath of the storm, Mayor Prince made an important point about trust in media: And when I think about KB101 and the decades it’s been in our city, an organization like that does not get trust from its citizens overnight. That trust is built over a long time, so when a catastrophe like this hits your community you go to the places you trust. You go to the place that you know is going to give you facts and information that you can count on. And in today’s world you know that’s not social media. Not that social media doesn’t have its place, but we want to be able to trust the information you get. Congratulations to KB101 and it's amazing 7th Crystal Award!
