Jan Model roadmap update: Today, Jan-v3 is built on top of Qwen as its pretrained base. Instead of switching to a new architecture again right away, we’d like to try a different direction. The next step we’re exploring is Jan-v3.5. With Jan-v3.5, our plan is to keep building on the Jan-v3 model, improving it over time instead of replacing it. In this phase we want to focus on: • Having more control over the pre-training process • Training Jan’s personality directly into the model • Expanding our synthetic data beyond reasoning, math, and code The goal is to learn how to continually evolve Jan models, instead of replacing them every time a new architecture appears. If we can get this right, Jan-v4 would aim to match leading models again, but with a training process that we fully control.
