Enrolling residential customers in grid programs is complex. Samsung Electronics America and Leap saw this with Flex Connect, a #SmartThings Energy program that rewards users for reducing energy use and supporting a greener grid. Participation required multiple steps: users had to discover and download SmartThings Energy, integrate their devices, and manually enable DR mode to save energy during grid strain. To accelerate adoption, Samsung and Leap simplified enrollment, fast-tracked eligible users, and automated re-engagement. The results were immediate: daily and weekly meter authorizations increased 5X, and onboarding drop-offs fell significantly.
