I had the distinct pleasure this week of welcoming 30 students to #JavaOne 2026. These students are our future and they represent it well. It brings me joy and hope. I want to especially thank our Community Keynote student panelists who did an outstanding job on stage. This activity was new to all of them, and they knocked it out of the park! * Piper Fleming (Stanford University) - for your leadership on the panel and for bringing your sharp curiosity and energy to every discussion, you always raise everyone around you up * Andrew Schoenen (University of California, Berkeley) - for your leadership at the meetup, asking compelling questions that triggered lively debate, and for your wry sense of humor that helps everyone feel they are a part of your circle * Rebecca Earle (Northeastern University) - for your poise under pressure, your collaborative approach in every moment, your deep introspection, and your thoughtful perspective in every discussion * Jared Guidry (Boise State University) - for modeling "disruptor" behavior that causes people to think about things differently in a way that yields growth & change and for your authenticity * Rohit A. (Santa Clara University) - for your respectful listening and insightful questions that drove deeper understanding between people on controversial topics and for breaking the one-word "rule" https://lnkd.in/g5gjVgXQ

JavaOne is over. And it was a really good one. Huge thanks to the Java DevRel team at Oracle. Chad Arimura, Sharat C., Heather Stephens, Nicolai Parlog, Lize Raes, Jim Grisanzio, Billy Korando, Ana-Maria Mihalceanu, José Paumard, Melissa J., Denys Makogon, David Delabassee, Crystal Sheldon You notice when people care about what they’re building here. For me, the best part was the conversations. Not the talks. The hallway track. Talking directly to the people working on Java. Getting their unfiltered view. Hearing how things actually work and where things are going. That’s the stuff you don’t get online. Also - very well organized. And yes, the food was great (not comparable to JavaOne from 10 years) I gave two talks around the Java ecosystem: The core idea was simple: Java can do a lot more than many people think. I showed how tools like OpenRewrite by Moderne, Vaadin and EclipseStore help you move faster and get more out of your applications without throwing everything away. And then there was the ribbon game. Luiz Real and Ivar Grimstad took it seriously. Really seriously. Just look at their badges. Next stop is JCON Europe in April: https://europe.jcon.one/ The Oracle team will be there. If you want to have these kinds of conversations, that’s the place.

#JavaOne was a true and pure #dev conference in a sea of “world’s largest ai conference”s . Such a refreshing and amazing innovative atmosphere. And got to hang out with the ol’ Helidon team (lots of buzz around #helidon) and Veronica Dumitriu (my Python tech sis 😊) and talk with so many other inspiring folks at the #holographicjavaaiagents booth. Impeccably run and contributed to by #Java legends Chad Arimura Sharat C. David Delabassee Ana-Maria Mihalceanu Lize Raes Ed Bratt Joe Di Pol Romain Grecourt Ryan Eberhard and too many others to list . Started digging into #java26 already 🙌🏻 #holographicduke #java #aidev

Thank you Ikroop Dhillon and NVIDIA for being an exciting part of JavaOne 2026! We look forward to future collaboration making Java the best platform for Enterprise AI.
Bringing the NVIDIA AI stack to the Java Ecosystem 🚀☕️ What a week filled with energy, conversations and at its heart - a collective passion for technology. Jensen Huang’s GTC keynote highlighted the latest breakthroughs in AI innovation. A critical takeaway from his address was the evolving role of data processing: structured data is the ground truth of AI, while unstructured data is the context. To power the next generation of AI, we must accelerate how we handle both. But how do we put this immense, accelerated power directly into the hands of enterprise developers? I had a blast answering exactly that a day later at the #JavaOne Keynote: Java for an AI World, alongside leaders from Uber, Microsoft, Broadcom, and Oracle. Here are the highlights of what we're bringing to the ecosystem: ⚡️ Data Processing Acceleration: We are delivering powerful wrappers, including cuVS Java and cuVS Lucene, to make enterprise data actionable. Right now, 90% of enterprise data is unstructured, and only 10% is utilized—we're changing that. 🧠 Generative AI Integration: Showcased how developers can seamlessly integrate GenAI building blocks like NVIDIA NIM and Nemotron models using familiar Java orchestrators like LangChain4j, Spring AI, and Embabel 🔮 The Future of Java: Shared our ongoing exploration into accelerating existing Java code using Project Panama and Project Babylon If you missed it, you can catch the full keynote here (I jump in around 57:00, and our live interview hits at 2:12) - https://lnkd.in/gxP7kUqU Make sure to also check out our technical session: 📌 Java in the Enterprise AI Era: From Data Processing to Project Babylon [LRN1487] What are you building with Java and AI right now? Let me know in the comments! 👇 Chad Arimura, Georges Saab, Zhitao Li, Josh Long, Paul Sandoz, Patrick Chanezon, ☁ Brian Benz, Lize Raes, Ana-Maria Mihalceanu Thank you to the powerhouse NVIDIA team who came from #GTC to support - James Vanderbeek, Danielle Short, Laura Cox, Andrew Butterfield, Raj Khanna, Corey Nolet, Ken Hester, Mithun Radhakrishnan, Sanjoy Das, Ray Tsang #NVIDIA #GTC2026 #JavaOne #Java #SpringAI #DataProcessing #DeveloperTools #AI

Heading home after an amazing week at JavaOne. A theme that emerged in many conversations with developers: We work on the “boring” stuff that underpins the world of business. And we are integrating AI into these very complex and mission-critical systems. Technologies including Spring AI, Embabel, Koog, MCP, Amazon Bedrock, and many others are supporting this massive architectural overhaul. All were represented at JavaOne. It was a pleasure to co-present with Josh Long about what Spring AI brings to the table. My solo presentation about agentic architectural patterns went great and I was surpised to see the interest in SkillsJars. Code examples: https://lnkd.in/gQyMmaCh Huge thank you to Sharat C., Chad Arimura, and Georges Saab (and many, many others) for putting on such an inspiring event!

Summarize Day 3 of JavaOne 2026. The final day. The community keynote "Java Together. The Power of You" with Sharat C. on stage. The message was clear: People First, Technology Sencond Ask the Java Architects Brian Goetz, @Ron Pressler, John Rose, @Alex Buckley, Dan Heidinga, Paul Sandoz, and @Nicolai Parlog discussing Valhalla, structured concurrency, and Java's future in AI. Watching the people who design the language I build with every day is unforgettable. Heather Stephens changed how I think about networking entirely, she listened to my plans, helped me define my path, and gave me the chance to connect and grow. Heather, thank you so much. Dinner with the JavaOne team gave me a window into their perspectives on the community and this platform's future. And Sharat C., the person who made this entire experience possible. What he did for a certified developer in transition is something I will pay forward for a very long time. I want to be honest: seeing the people who actually build and maintain the tools I use, the doc I read, the talks I watch on YouTube when learning Java. meeting them in person, hearing them, feeling their energy when sharing knowledge, that moved me deeply. This community made me feel connected and supported in a way I didn't expect. If you're part of the younger generation learning Java: be proactive. Reach out. Connect. Ask for help. This community will show up for you the way it showed up for me. I came hoping to learn about Java 26. I'm leaving with a network, a direction, and a belief that the Java community is the strongest force in software. I am so thankful to be here and meet these super cool people 😎. See you next year.
