The main problem with this law is its lack of specificity. What started with a video exposing children being subjected to adult situations online — a real issue, closely tied to how social media algorithms work and to the difficulty and anonymity of a massive network of pedophiles who mostly go unpunished — is a noble cause, but resulted in an extremely poorly written law.


It assumes that this kind of content will always tend to exist and, instead of focusing on preventing the exploitation of minors, it adopts a method that avoids directly confronting platforms about how this content spreads, distributing responsibility in a fragmented way and especially placing it on parents, who often don’t understand the issue.


The worst part, in my opinion, is something Felca himself said in a recent interview: “Some smaller sites simply won’t be able to handle the pressure and may cease to exist.” This is a sad reality, since enforcement mainly happens through fines: large companies can handle it, while smaller sites will disappear. As a result, these networks will likely migrate from the light web to more hidden environments. At least, that’s my analysis — it’s not a well-focused law; it feels like it’s shooting in all directions in the name of protecting children. And even though it has some positive aspects, this kind of enforcement will be difficult to adapt to, especially for those of us who use the internet differently.


Another issue is that, although there are documents explaining how classification is being done, there is still excessive strictness, with most social networks, games, etc. being rated 18+, which in many cases is contradictory — especially considering the law was rushed and some sites are still under review.

Personally, this law doesn’t affect me much beyond age verification, but it still concerns me. I grew up in a conservative environment and found in the internet a space to express myself and build who I am. Because of that, I’m wary of broad regulatory measures that, even with good intentions, could end up limiting that kind of space in the future.


The internet has real risks, but its impact also depends on how it is used — something that today is heavily influenced by algorithms and the interests of the platforms themselves.

For this track, I took some inspiration from Essenger and VOJ, leaning into a more Darksynth vibe.

The composition is primarily focused on detailed ambiance and pads. I used the 'Salton Sea' preset from Analog Dreams (either 1 or 2, I can't quite remember) in Kontakt, featuring several highly customized and textured pads.


I paired these with a fairly basic but widely spread chord progression. For the melodies, I layered two synths—one bright and one more analog—over a Midtempo Serum preset for the bass.


In the final drop, I used a pluck similar to the one in 'Memory Reboot', along with Ample Metal Hellraiser for the guitars, which has a very heavy effect chain consisting of reverb, distortion, and aggressive EQ.

The mixing is relatively simple, mainly using EQs and OTT for compression and brightness. For effects, I mostly relied on the reverb and delay from SerumFX, but I applied Devastator2 to the pads to keep the track from feeling too dense.

Looking back, I realized that my Midtempo and Dubstep-leaning tracks really do lack atmospheric depth, but searching for tutorials hasn't really led me to what I’m looking for.


So, I’m reaching out for help: if you know of any good tutorials on the subject, or if you're experienced in this area and can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it! For this track, I originally tried to produce something in a French House style, but I was finding it quite difficult. Instead of forcing a specific goal—which was becoming frustrating—I decided to just go with the flow and see what happened. The result turned out really interesting, and I’m happy to call this a more personal sound.


Compositionally, I focused on plucks and violins to give the track movement alongside the drums and a very funky bassline. To nail the groove, I used the FL Studio Quantizer with some custom tweaks to get that specific 'swing.' Another thing that made production easier was using the Blues scale—it’s much more intuitive for composing leads, like I did with the sax (Embertone Sax) and the main synth. The 'robot pluck' was created by mixing manual sections with randomized, quantized fragments for variety.


In the mix, I relied heavily on OTT and Soundgoodizer. Since this is an older track, I wasn't using tape saturation yet (which I use a lot now and think would have sounded great on the bass). I kept the reverb and delay at medium settings to avoid cluttering the mix, using Phaser, Flanger, and Tape Stop for movement and transitions.


This track was the beginning of a new style I’m learning to master, and I’ve been experimenting with these techniques in more recent projects!

Listening to that pad, I hear a couple of layers. There's a simple wave oscillator playing a chord, maybe with a little bit of tonal evolution over time, and a sparkly glitchy sound that I imagine was made by scrambling the pitch of a wave while quantizing it to some collection of notes. The chord sound has a long attack and release contributing to the bleed between harmonies. Both sounds have a band-pass filter, lot of delay and reverb, as well as a stereo effect of some sort (probably flanger or auto-pan). They're probably being processed together.

The main source of character for the sparkly bit is down-sampling distortion. I thought it was bit-crushing at first but I think down-sampling sounds closer. The process I used to create a similar sound is as follows:

For this track, I took inspiration from some of VOJ's music. I wanted to create something really emotional, so I started with a very sad melody and chord progression. To build the atmosphere, I used 4 layers of pads, which absolutely maxed out my CPU, so I had to bounce them all to stems.


In the drop, I added 4 more plucks for the main melody and one extra layer to build background tension. I used Convolver and EQ, but since the plucks were already quite polished, they didn't need much processing. For the bass, I followed my usual routine: compression and making sure the sub stays in mono. I gave the pads a lot of stereo width and dialed the dry signal back to about 50% to make them feel more atmospheric

Towards the end, the saxophone section features several reverb plugins and OTT compression. Naturally, almost everything is sidechained with Kickstarter2. The drums are fairly simple, mostly using Satin for compression and saturation.


It's a much simpler track in terms of mixing and mastering, but I'm really happy with the overall composition.

My inspiration for Never Lost was initially the song Lost & Found by The Midnight.

For this track, I wanted to capture that warm, melodic atmosphere, so I used a piano I often go to, using a custom preset where I rolled off most of the velocity dynamics to keep it sounding soft.


To complement the vibe, I used one of my favorite synths, Saurus, for the pads and melodies, as well as some incidental sound effects (like that bird-like sound at the start of the verse). For the atmospheric mix, my go-to plugins were Devastator2, OTT, and Parametric EQ2—which were essential for controlling the frequencies of the various pads. I used Devastator mainly to add a light saturation to the high end, preventing it from clashing with other pads and effects.


For effects, I used Fruity Convolver, SuperVHS, and kHs Stereo. On specific melodies, I applied Kickstarter2, kHs Bitcrush, and Valhalla Delay. For the bass, I used OTT and Satin for compression and EQ to bring out that 'pluck' feel, and I always use Ozone Imager to ensure the sub frequencies stay in mono.


For the drums, I relied heavily on Satin to get that tape saturation effect, along with a dedicated drum room channel using Convolver as a reverb.


Never Lost was my first track of the year and definitely one of the ones I put the most effort into.

When I was a kid back in 2015 and 2016 I used to play a browser game, it was made in a pixel art style, where you picked a character and went through several dungeons, the cool part was that you could transform into the characters you killed, and if you beat the level with them, you unlocked them to play again.


Furthermore, some dungeons had bosses, and you could even become the bosses.


But I couldn't find that game anymore when the website I used, "Click Jogos," simply removed it. I don't know if it was deleted or just disappeared from the page where I found it, but the fact is that it's no longer available.


No one has ever been able to help me, whether on Reddit or by searching through hours of threads within it, I've never found any mention of this game.


Some people might even confuse it with that knight game where you have 100 endings, but it's not that game, despite the similarities; this one only took place in dungeons.

Being forced to tinker when you're in a creative mood just kills it, I like it for normal use though.

Especially balancing college and work, it's becoming urgent to relegate this laptop to simple tasks and do the heavy lifting on a dedicated machine. Almost all my tracks are currently stuttering and glitching. I'm trying to get my brother to chip in so we can buy the PC together.

I've been saving up for a new computer, but I'm torn between getting a powerful laptop (for portability) or a desktop PC. Currently, I produce everything on a Lenovo laptop with an i3 processor and 12GB of RAM. It's exhausting because more than half of my projects max out the CPU usage. I often can't listen to all elements playing together, which is frustrating during mixing and even worse during mastering.


Looking at specs online, I see recommendations for a Ryzen 7 and 32GB of RAM (plus plenty of SSD storage, which I already have). However, prices are steep and getting worse.


So, I wanted to ask you experienced producers: What are your setups? Are they built specifically for music, or are they gaming rigs that double as workstations?


Also, can anyone speak to the efficiency of using Linux for production? I'm a bit hesitant since many of my VSTs and plugins don't have Linux ports.

Perhaps it's because we remember many iconic Minecraft sounds, such as piano Compositions with violins and much more melodic synthesizers, in general they more sad and nostalgic, but that this track sounds 100% like something you'd find in Minecraft.


When I made a track in this style, I focused more on nostalgia, and honestly, although I managed to achieve a piano composition It had a nostalgic vibe, but it didn't feel 100% Minecraft to me.

I feel like I am prone to adding too much "fluff." Too much reverb. Too much delay. Too many spacious synths. There's a balance to having a strong core song and fun ornamentation that I feel like I'm still figuring out.


Nailing certain types of grooves is really hard for me. It's especially tough working on tracks with complex rhythms where multiple instruments have interlocking parts. It's a shame, because I absolutely love Disco, French House, and other styles like that.

Recently I've been listening to a lot of synthwave, like The Midnight, FM-84, Essenger and many others, and I also made one of the best songs I've ever made (hyperdrive), and I'm looking for more bands and inspirations in this genre, especially with female vocals, something I haven't found much of for some reason.
