The U.S. Department of State’s Investment Climate Statements provide information on the business climates of more than 170 economies. Prepared by U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide, they analyze each economy’s openness to foreign investment.

The reports cover topics including:

  • Openness to, and Restrictions upon, Foreign Investment,
  • Investment and Taxation Treaties,
  • Legal Regime,
  • Industrial Policies,
  • Protection of Property Rights,
  • Financial Sector,
  • State-owned Enterprises,
  • Corruption,
  • Labor Policies and Practices,
  • Political and Security Environment, and
  • U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and Other Investment Insurance or Development Finance Programs.

Our diplomatic and consular posts overseas are working daily to address many of the barriers to U.S. investment highlighted by the Investment Climate Statements. Addressing these barriers can create opportunities for U.S. businesses and support their growth and expansion in the United States and abroad.

The Investment Climate Statements also form chapters of the Department of Commerce’s Country Commercial Guides  and can be read together for a broad description of the investment and business environments in foreign economies.

For more information on the investment climate in a specific economy, each Investment Climate Statement provides a point of contact at the respective U.S. embassy or consulate.

For all other inquiries, or to provide suggestions on how to improve the Investment Climate Statements, please contact the Department of State’s Office of Investment Affairs.
