Seeing communities across the country impacted by natural disasters, one 12-year-old student decided to make a difference by creating a natural disaster preparedness app. Built with full-stack technologies, mapping APIs, and OpenAI, the app combines real-time data with AI-generated guidance to make emergency response faster, smarter, and more accessible.
Teen Sisters Build AI-Powered App to Help Women Diagnose a Silent Reproductive Disorder
Two New York City sisters created PCOSense, a machine learning-powered app designed to help women screen for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder that often goes undetected. Frustrated by how many women live unaware of the condition’s symptoms—irregular periods, acne, excess hair growth—they saw an opportunity to use technology to close the awareness gap. With no prior background in AI, they taught themselves how to train a KNN model, tackle messy medical data, and build a user-friendly diagnostic quiz. With guidance from a mentor and constant user feedback, they launched a platform that’s as much about empowerment as it is about early detection. Their work turns data into diagnosis—and gives voice to a women’s health issue often left in the shadows.
