Modern factories and distribution centers operate at a pace and complexity that traditional planning tools were never designed for. These environments shift constantly: racks move, automation zones expand, and people and vehicles navigate layouts that often diverge from the latest drawings, even in organizations with strong documentation habits.

When planning a project in a manufacturing facility, it’s vital to start with accurate information. While object-based CAD (Computer-Aided Design) renditions may be the most accurate version of the facility, in many cases they might not be available, might not reflect changes made since they were produced, or might be difficult to access based on organizational or license structures.

Rework is something everyone in construction has experienced. Depending on which study you look at, it can eat up 10 to 20 percent of a project budget. Owners try to plan for it, contractors try to manage around it, and subs adapt to it as best they can. These costs are absorbed into project economics, even though they don’t contribute to better outcomes.

Large language models are already a common presence in software development. Every NavVis engineering team, for example, has adopted them in its daily work and, when reasonable, uses them to autocomplete functions, generate routine boilerplate code, and even draft documentation.

But one persistent limitation is context: these systems don’t “remember” what has been learned across sessions, and they struggle to coordinate when multiple tools or tasks are involved.

Across the process industry, the task of digitizing an entire plant used to be complicated and slow. For years, reality capture required specialized experts and bulky equipment, leading many plant managers to assume scanning meant lengthy shutdowns and complex logistics.

NavVis has always aimed to help people better capture and explore indoor and outdoor spaces. Our scanners and software turn real places into accurate, detailed 3D digital spaces. But what if these digital spaces could do more than just show what is there? What if they could also understand their own content?
