I am an author with a lifelong obsession for superheroes, a former lawyer, a former professional poker player, a former farmer, and a costumed crime-fighter by night. Some of the preceding sentence is a lie.

Nice!
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021This was a fun heart felt very realistic coming-of-age superhero story. The descriptions from the characters point of view are very well done. The characters are memorable and very flushed out. The authors insight into Boot Camp was quite good.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this book is the tone shift from the main characters point of view in the beginning it’s immature mostly revolving around thoughts of girls and early college life, after he goes to “the Academy” ;read Boot Camp, The tone subtly changes, The MC’s thoughts are more focused and more mature as the story progresses it’s subtle and very well done.
Definitely going to read the second book.

A good all around hero book.
Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2021What I loved most about this book is that how, because it was written by a lawyer, the author brings out various laws/regulations on SuperHero's and their powers in a way the typical author wouldn't be able to. Each and every law features elements, factors, and exceptions that are as realistic as it gets. LIke sure the idea of superheroes being real is unrealistic....but the author ensures that the rules/laws governing the activities of superheroes are realistic/practical. The action scenes are great as well, character development was great, and the comedic elements were excellent.
The only negative for me...is that the book featured a lot of time jumps and at times the book was uneventful.

Love this series! Another hit.
Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2019The jokes are hilarious, about what a 13 and up boy would say. Love his father's faith & morals. The friends he makes are great. However, I really want to know why Myth won't tell his friends his background? Has he done bad things? Is he embarrassed by his family life? Why did they not get in trouble for the fight they got into on Theo's birthday. It wouldn't have been hard to figure out who it was. Why did Theo never tell Myth about hooking up with Neha? Was he embarrassed Myth might find out he was a virgin? Did Neha only sleep with him because she felt bad that he was still a virgin? Could she tell? I think any girl would have. He couldn't even talk properly to a girl. The lesson Theo learns in the end is priceless! I was worried he wouldn't change his mind before it was too late. On to the next book!

Interesting Story, not the best narrative
Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2022Some of the lines Theo has throughout the beginning seem a bit cliché, as does some of his train of thought. I also look forward to more world-building in the series; I believe the book could have used more of that. That said, despite some of the narrative and lack of background, it’s a very interesting take on super heroism. Regardless of any criticisms, it kept me turning the page. I look forward to reading the rest.

A Fun Take on the Superhero Genre
Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2020I know in today's day the Superhero genre seems to be getting used and reused. I for one am still a fan and I enjoyed Caped very much. Taking some ideas from superhero stories but adding in a superhero boot camp twist, it really was fun to keep the pages turning. I can very much relate to the main character, Theo, and the point of view of his character is written well. Seeing his evolution from a weak nobody into the confident hero really keeps th interesting. I also very much like his friends Myth & Smoke and I would like to see their characters fleshed out more. It definitely starts out as Theo's origin story in this series, and it is a lot of fun to read. My one complaint is there are some questions left dangling, but I guess that is what sequels are for.

Bashing super villains
Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2017I guess it's not a bad kind of wish to be admired for bashing villain's...more so if they happen to be super villains. That is not what Theo Conley wished for, though, at least not until they killed his dad.
Bashing is not that easy to do though, despite what you may think. It takes practice...and will, a basher and practice...Lots of practice. And you have to find out who the villain is and where to find him.
It also helps if you are a super powerful young boy and get invited to an academy for superheroes for training.
Quite an action packed coming of age story that captures your attention and keep you turning the pages. I can hardly wait to start with the next adventure in this rip-roaring series of the caped Theo Conley.

Super reading for a super experience.
Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2019Superheroes are real. So are super villains. At least according to Mr. Brasher. And what a world he has created!
Theodore Conley is an extremely intelligent (and fairly) young man in college. And, in an unexpected manner, he discovers he is a metahuman (i.e., he's got super powers). Training ensues.
The author has created a fairly consistent world, how the use of metahuman powers is regulated by law, and training is required to become licensed (sorry, Superman).
Highly recommended. Oh, there are two other series set in this same universe, one is a super sorceress, the other is a metahuman private detective. That excerpt was quite intriguing. I look forward to reading that one, and the next one in this Omega series.

Caped
Reviewed in the United States on August 28, 2017This is a very good book for what it is. The writer did a good job of showing a US world as it is in the modern mythology, comic books and movies, a sort of alternate history which allows everyone on the street and otherwise to accept caped crusaders flying about and catching criminals in the act, saving ordinary people from whatever fate the criminals have in mind for them. It does need a good final proofreading by someone other than the writer, who appears to be unable to proofread in his own blind spots-- the nice thing about Kindle books is that such alterations can be made immediately, and the "second edition" fixed without the whole thing having to go through a whole paper First Edition. He does have a good way with words, and even though superheroes are not really my thing, I may well continue on with the series.

Tamim5 out of 5 starsWith great Jamesism’s
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 15, 2018I’ve read and listened to a lot of books and this is the first book that I’ve reviewed and I’d like to thank the author for writing the book.
As other readers have mentioned, it’s hard to write something new in the superhero genre and if you write anything about a boy learning the responsibility of his new found powers you’ll inevitably be compared to Spiderman’s backstory.
I enjoyed this book, read through it in a couple of hours. I liked the fact that when confronted with world shattering power, he just wants the powers to disappear than to be a hero. Which is exactly how I would react after all if I wanted to fight crime I’d be a policeman and like everyone and the main character of this book I enjoy not being shot at. Which by the way, is what killed off Avatar the worlds greatest and most powerful superhero as stated at the beginning of this book. We never find out how this epic level superhero died by bullet, which is a bit disappointing or maybe revealed in a future book.
Spoiler alert!!!
The story is kid gets powers whilst getting beaten up by bullies, payback! Has to register as a metahuman, which is like he is on a sex offenders register but worse because you haven’t actually committed a crime. Then as it’s administered by the government, the “super secure” news that he is one of the four most powerful metas gets leaked. Whilst trying to kill him a supervillain ends up killing his dad. By the way what is with these reviews saying that a loved one dies or referring to Spiderman, I mean the kid has no friends or family other than his father, you don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to know that his dad is done for. This is why I hate reading and writing reviews. His dad was a saint, hard worker, wouldn’t marry again after his wife died, all the great father cliches rolled into one and I loved the little
Jamesism’s his father has (not going to tell you what they are so you’ll buy the book), even though I new it was coming didn’t stop me from shedding tears. I digress, the rest of the story is him working to hone his powers, makes some friends, finally gets laid and gets revenge. If you need more spoilers read the intro to the next book.
Anyway it’s a very enjoyable read, good characters, world building and is quick and easy to ready.
Cons: I wish it was longer.

A. Trujillo5 out of 5 starsA story to like
Reviewed in Germany on November 22, 2020I’m trying to find good superhero stories for a while. Best I have read so far was super powerds.
There is a ton of books I didn’t like for various reason, but this one I really enjoyed. It’s not to intricate, but has enough world build to feel real. It doesn’t contradict itself, which for me is always the extremely important.
If you are looking for a solid superhero story, I hope you can enjoy this one like I did. I for one am glad i gave it a try.
