Indiana motorcyclist finds himself in 'a hole lot of problems' during ride: sheriff

PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. (WKRC) - An Indiana motorcyclist fell into a sinkhole during a ride, authorities said.

A motorcyclist was not injured after riding into an unlit sinkhole that formed on a road near a sheriff’s department, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

In a Facebook post, the department said the rider could not see the hole before the motorcycle dropped into it

“THANKFULLY the driver of this motorcycle is ok,” the department wrote. “Although he sure had a wild ride.”

The post cited Indiana Code 9-16-21-1, which generally prohibits stopping, parking or leaving a vehicle on the paved portion of certain highways when it is practical to pull off the roadway.

“As a motorcyclist, you can do everything right and still find yourself in a hole lot of problems,” the department wrote, urging riders to wear helmets, slow down and prepare for unexpected road hazards.

Officials said the motorcyclist was traveling slowly at the time.
