Read all sixteen words before your first move. A word's most obvious category is often a trap.
Select four words
Tap any four words you think belong together. Selections are highlighted - you can change your mind before submitting.
Submit your guess
Hit Submit. If correct, the group is revealed in color. If not, you lose a mistake - you only have four.
Clear the board
Find all four groups before your mistakes run out. Solve with zero for a perfect score.

These habits separate the veterans from the newcomers.

Beware the obvious trap
The most intuitive grouping is often wrong. Designers include red herrings - words that seem to fit one category but belong to another. Always consider alternatives.
Start with your surest bet
Submit your most confident group first. Correct answers remove words from the board, making remaining connections clearer. Don't waste early mistakes.
Think in wordplay
Many categories involve a hidden word before or after, a pun, or a double meaning. Ask yourself: "What if these all follow ___?" Think associatively, not literally.
Use the Shuffle button
Stuck? Shuffle the cards to break spatial patterns. A fresh layout sometimes sparks connections you hadn't noticed before.
Work backwards from 5
If you're confident about five words for one group, one is the impostor. Figuring out which one often cracks the whole puzzle wide open.
Guard your mistakes
You only have four before the game ends. When you hear "One away…" three of your picks were right - pause and reconsider before spending another mistake.

Play Now
A new Daily puzzle is available every day at midnight local time. Everyone gets the same puzzle each day, so you can compare results with friends. Once played, the Daily locks until midnight when a fresh one drops.
Unlimited mode lets you play as many puzzles as you like, any time. After each game, hit "New Puzzle" for a fresh challenge. Puzzles rotate so you don't see the same one twice in a row.
They are bigger boards. Large gives you 24 words in 6 hidden groups with 6 mistakes allowed, and Giant gives you 36 words in 9 groups with 9 mistakes. The rules are identical to Classic - you still select four words at a time - there is simply more on the board to untangle. Switch between them with the Classic, Large and Giant links above the grid.
Yes. Each board size has its own Daily puzzle and its own Unlimited mode, so there are six separate boards to play. Solving the Classic Daily does not use up your Large or Giant Daily - each one is tracked on its own.
After every game, a Share button appears in the results screen. It copies a spoiler-free emoji grid to your clipboard - just like the NYT format - showing your guesses without revealing answers. On mobile, it may open your device's native share sheet.
Each solved group reveals in its own color. The colors are purely for visual variety and don't indicate difficulty. Every group is equally challenging!
"One away…" means three of your four selected words belong to the same group, but the fourth is from a different category. Use it as a cue to look more carefully at which word in your selection is the intruder.
Yes - stats are kept separately for every combination of mode and board size, so Daily Classic, Daily Large, Daily Giant and their Unlimited counterparts each have their own games played, win %, current streak, max streak and mistake distribution. Open Statistics and use the Daily/Unlimited tabs and the size row beneath them to switch. Stats live in your browser's local storage, so they are per-device and won't sync across browsers or devices.
