Markforged raises $82 million in Series D funding round Money & Funding

3D printer manufacturer Markforged has raised $82 million through a Series D investment round led by Summit Partners. The funding round also saw participation from existing investors Matrix Partners, Microsoft’s Venture Fund M12 and Porsche SE. The multi-million dollar investment will enable Markforged to accelerate its product roadmap—including the release of mass production printers and a range of new materials,—to ramp up its global expansion and to reinforce the company’s position in the global manufacturing industry.

GE9X, the largest and most 3D printed jet engine ever, is flying Additive Manufacturing

The world’s largest jet engine took its maiden flight over the Mojave Desert on Tuesday, March 14. The GE9X engine – which has been known in the 3D printing world in particular as a case study for its 3D printed fuel nozzles – is a showstopper. At 134 inches, its fan diameter is so tall and wide that Shaquille O’Neil would fit inside the engine’s cover with Kobe Bryant sitting on his shoulders. The whole engine is as wide as the body of an entire Boeing 737.

Black Buffalo 3D partners with AM Unique in the Middle East Construction 3D Printing

Black Buffalo 3D (BB3D), a 3D construction printing company, and AM Unique – by Namthaja, have partnered to develop 3DCP projects in the Middle East. BB3D will add its NEXCON concrete 3D printers to AM Unique’s fleet, while AM Unique will leverage its expertise in design and 3D printing for residential, commercial, and industrial structures as an efficient alternative to traditional building methods.

British Army to acquire XSPEE3D printer from SPEE3D Industrial Additive Manufacturing

The British Army is reportedly expected to acquire SPEE3D’s cold-spray metal 3D printing technology to help develop the army’s unplanned repair capabilities. In addition to purchasing the XSPEE3D printer, the British Army has signed a two-year contract to work with SPEE3D which involves delivering training courses, and working closely with the British Army’s Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

Running alongside the two week exhibition called To Scale, which is showcasing 10 art projects centered around the concept of scaling, was a discussion hosted by the Lady Tech Guild, a creative collective of professional and tech-savvy women who work as 3D artists, designers, biohackers, educators, and entrepreneurs within the 3D world.
