Asters

Low-lying stars that will not linger long
And bend their sprays beneath the year’s retreat.
How shall we weigh such goods against such wrong?
The flame and smoke now rising through the air
To smother what had been a peaceful street,
Where voice had joined with voice in morning prayer?
