We’re celebrating this Onam with a special edition of the Figma Make-a-thon! 🌼 A Make-a-thon is a hands-on day of building, experimenting, and turning ideas into something real using Figma Make. You’ll be given a prompt on the day, and from there, it’s all about exploring your ideas, trying things out, and seeing what you can create. There’s no need for a polished pitch or a perfect final product. The fun is in making, tinkering, learning along the way, and sharing what you come up with. Whether you’ve already been experimenting with Figma Make or you’re trying it for the first time, come spend the day creating with the community. We’ll keep the rest of the challenge a surprise for now. ✨ Please bring your own laptop and charger, as you’ll need them to take part in the Make-a-thon.

Kelly Faltas, senior product designer and design advocate, hosts an online session packed with tips and hacks to speed up your Figma workflow. For more than a year, Kelly's been running regular pro-use Figma sessions inside her company, showing designers how to design faster, get more out of the tool, and cut the busywork. For this online event, she is pulling the best material from those sessions and opening it up to a wider audience. The format is a live online session with in-Figma demos and Q&A. The livestream link is sent only to registered attendees, so please make sure to RSVP. Photo and video consent: We may take photos (screenshots) and videos (recording) during the event for use in recap blog posts, social media, and other promotional materials. By attending the meetup, you consent to it.

The Figma Make-a-Thon Makurdi 2026 is a hands-on, community-driven design sprint bringing together creatives, designers, and builders to collaborate, learn, and create impactful digital solutions within a limited time frame. Hosted by Friends of Figma Makurdi, this event is designed to challenge participants to think critically, work in teams, and transform ideas into functional prototypes using Figma and other collaborative tools. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced designer, the Make-a-Thon provides a supportive environment to explore creativity, sharpen your skills, and build meaningful projects. Participants will be grouped into teams and guided through a structured sprint that includes ideation, problem definition, design execution, and final presentations. Along the way, there will be mentorship sessions, design critiques, and opportunities to learn best practices from experienced professionals.

Friends of Figma Calgary and Calgary UX are getting together for a hands-on Figma Make-a-thon on August 25 at 5:00 PM at the Calgary Central Library, Room 16-B . We’ll start with a quick intro to Figma Make, reveal the challenge, and then spend most of the evening building. You can work on your own or with a team. No need to come with an idea, and no need to make anything polished. The whole point is to try things, make mistakes, build something silly, and have some fun with it. We’ll have food, snacks, drinks, and fun prizes too. ------------------------------- What to expect A quick intro to Figma Make If you haven’t used it before, no problem. We’ll cover the basics before we start. A ridiculous challenge We’ll give everyone the same prompt and see where people take it. Time to build Most of the evening will be open build time. We’ll be around to help if you get stuck, want feedback, or just want to bounce an idea off someone. A casual show-and-tell At the end, we’ll share what we made and hand out a few fun awards. Some of the categories might include: Most Ridiculously Useless So Bad, It’s Good That Might Actually Work ------------------------------- A few rules Don’t overthink it. The stranger the idea, the better. Fun over polish. You’re not presenting to a client. Make something that makes you laugh. Try things. Use the event as an excuse to experiment with Figma Make and see what happens. Share your work. Even if it breaks. Sometimes that’s the best part. ------------------------------- Why come?
