What is Deutsche Woche 2026?

It is the week-long flagship program of the UP Deutscher Verein, returning for the first time since 2018. This year’s theme is "Deutsch Verbindet: Schnittpunkt der Welten" (German Connects: The World Intersected), focusing on German as a global language that connects people to culture, education, and career opportunities.

When and where will the events take place?

The main events run from April 21 to April 24, 2026, primarily within the UP Diliman campus, including the CAL Atrium, CAL AVR, and CAL / PAV Classrooms.

Do I need to know German to join?

Not at all! Most activities, like the Sprachcafé and the "Kennen Sie Deutschland?" Trivia Quiz, are designed to be beginner-friendly and open to those with little to no prior German knowledge.

Is there a registration fee?

Most events are free, but the Trivia Quiz Night requires a registration fee to cover materials and prizes. Members of partner organizations receive a 20% discount. Snacks are also free at our Sprachcafe and Kinoabend! 🤩

What should I expect at the Sprachcafé?

It is a 1.5-hour social session featuring a 25-minute beginner micro-class followed by 40 minutes of guided conversation practice with coffee and German snacks. This event is open to true beginners (with no German language background)!

What is the "Living Links" Symposium?

This is a career and pathways forum where university faculty, industry experts, and research specialists discuss how German language skills open professional routes in diverse fields. What to expect? Diverse perspectives about: 1. German in Academe and Research: A look at how the language opens academic tracks and international research opportunities. 2. German in Industry and Mobility: Discussions on vocational pathways, industry-linked trajectories, and scholarship opportunities. 3. German in Diplomacy and Translation: Exploring the role of German as a medium for international cooperation and intellectual exchange.

Kinoabend is a cultural film screening and discussion night designed to be a high-access experience where both German learners and non-learners can encounter contemporary German-language culture through cinema. What to expect? 1. Film Screening: A screening of the critically acclaimed 2024 film "Winners" (Sieger sein), which explores themes of teamwork, migration, and identity. 2. Accessibility: The film is in German with English subtitles, making it approachable for everyone regardless of their language level. 3. Film Talk: A facilitated post-screening discussion and open forum led by a guest speaker to deepen engagement with the film's themes. 4. Community & Snacks: An opportunity to connect with fellow students. Free snacks will be provided!
