Ratification: The Second Bailout
Vaxzor, a genetically engineered rat, is sent to command a fleet tasked with breaking humanity out of its cosmic zoo. Centuries later, Myla, a low-level defense operator, stumbles upon a forbidden signal that could unravel everything she was trained to obey. Zorkal, a disgraced barrister drowning himself in regret, grasps at one last chance to matter.
Their fates collide across law, myth, and war - in a world built on collateral and consensus, where contracts are enforced by physics itself, belief is indistinguishable from protocol, and truth is only what the chain agrees to ratify.
Blending hard science fiction and cypherpunk manifesto with a legal thriller’s precision, Ratification asks what it costs to survive in a world of commodified truth.

Great Sci-Fi incorporating the tech of Timechain contracts as fundamental reality!
Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2025This was a very enjoyable read, the story being both grounded in a reality of rules we know and a reality of new rules that are here and are coming. Social hierarchies, technology-enforced contracts, and incentives inherent to potentially all sentient, biological life connect the world of ratkind to a future we see emerging today.
One broad mystery that evolved as I followed this adventure was: Where did the humans go?
We come to understand how the rats adapted into a world they inherited, creating a new one for themselves, with a mythical backdrop of past human infrastructure. The rats function in a reality in which the timechain ledger is part of the fabric of life itself (and more) connecting any future-curious reader to how modern technology is propelling humanity into something much bigger than we may imagine.
Author H.B. Rattinger presents a strong philosophical and scientific intellect, thinking deeply about a wide range of ideas in a refreshing way. He shifts the paradigm beyond where we presume the future may take us; current theories dominated by robots, AI, and whether this path is darkness or enlightenment. Ratification is grounded in a realistic near-future world of intelligent biology, familiar human (and rat) motivations & adventures, and stokes a bigger question about where the humans went and why. This book informs us of who we are today, the systems we take for granted now, and where all this is going.
This is a highly recommended read for a unique sci-fi view on systemic issues we see happening today.

Mona5 out of 5 starsSciFi auf höchstem Niveau
