01

How it works

This Random Pokemon Generator guide is short by design: set a boundary, make a roll, then keep or change the slots that matter.

  1. 01
    Set the boundary

Choose a count, debut generation, and optional type.

  2. 02
    Generate a set

The main action creates a fresh seed and roll.

  3. 03
    Refine or replay

Lock useful cards, reroll open slots, or enter the seed again.

02

Controls and replay

The generator keeps its important choices in view. These definitions describe exactly what changes when you adjust a control.

Count
Pick 1 for one idea, 3 for a compact comparison, or 6 for a full group.
Generation filter
Generation means the species’ debut generation, from Gen 1 · Kanto through Gen 9 · Paldea. Type matches the bundled metadata; “All generations” leaves that boundary open.
Advanced filters
Category and evolution controls use PokéAPI species metadata. No shared types keeps every selected pair type-disjoint; optional Nature, Gender, and Ability details are deterministic for the current seed.
Unique and sprites
Unique draws without replacement within one result. Show sprites adds optional external images; text cards remain complete when images are off or unavailable.
Lock, reroll, seed, share
Lock a card before Reroll unlocked. Reroll all starts a new round. Replay seed reproduces a roll, Copy seed gives the short value, and Share places the state in a URL hash without a server record.

03

What you can use it for

Use a constrained roll as a starting point for a prompt, a study list, or a friendly challenge. The cards expose the boundary that produced them, so you can explain a result, keep a favorite, and try one deliberate change.

  • Writing promptGive a scene a cast and a type constraint.
  • Drawing warm-upMake a small, reproducible subject list.
  • Study or sortingCompare a region or type without hand-picking entries.
  • Group challengeShare one seed so everyone starts from the same roll.

Data and privacy

1,025 species
Each roll can use names, National Dex IDs, types, debut regions, and optional sprites.
Runs in your browser
Generation uses the included species list and does not need a live generation request.
Browser-only state
Preferences and the latest valid result stay in this browser when available. Shared links carry the state without a server record.
Optional images
Sprite requests can fail without blocking text generation. This is an independent fan tool with no account, analytics, ad layer, remote write, or official affiliation.

FAQ

What does Unique mean?

Unique means no National Dex entry repeats inside the current result. It does not remove related species; it changes how slots are drawn.

What does the generation filter include?

It includes species whose debut generation maps to the chosen Gen 1–9 label. A later location or regional form does not change that debut generation.

How do I replay or share a result?

Enter the seed in Replay seed and choose Generate from seed. Share creates a URL hash with the rules, slot IDs, and locks; the state is not saved on a server.

What happens when a pool is too small?

The current valid cards stay visible. Widen the generation or type, choose fewer slots, turn off Unique, or disable No shared types when repeats or shared types are acceptable.

Where does the metadata come from?

Pokémon metadata comes from PokéAPI species, Pokémon, and generation endpoints. Only optional sprite URLs point outside the page.

Is this an official product?

No. It is an independent fan tool with no affiliation or endorsement from the Pokémon rights holders.
