Despite NEMTT emerging in 2020, the idea of producing music is ancient. In 2002, on a regular day at work, while talking to a friend (and listening to 80’s / 90’s dance music) I said: “Do you know how these songs are made?“ He was smarter than me and had more “knowledge” on this topic, and he said: “Take a look at this program!” That day, many hours were exclusively spent learning how to use the program, and at that time, we did not have easy access to information as we do today. Everything was based on “try, test, check, and loop. Trying some combinations of synthesizers’ configurations, kicks, snares, hi hats and more. After six long months of using that program incessantly, I could create something remotely good-I finished my first song! In reality, it was a sketch of music, because in my opinion, it was terrible, but I had to listen to another kind of equipment. The best place was the tape player of my father’s car and, I invested some money on that. I do not remember how I passed my “Frankenstein song” to the K7 tape (only the elders will remember). I just recalled that I had put it in together with a lot of other songs that were in that tape. Back then, it was common to record songs from the radio. After I heard it, I was impressed. The music was much worse than I had imagined. Not because of the song, but the bassline was very loud and the kicks hit very hard; there was no balance at all. Today, I think it would be normal; after all, it was my first interaction with the program. I knew absolutely nothing about music, and so it was expected that it would be bad, but at the time, I was discouraged to spend much time on something that was not too pleasant (to my ears) and stopped trying to make a new song or fix the current one. The magic happened a week or two later, and the worst thing is that I only understood it years later. While going to a bar with my cousins and a friend in São Paulo, using my father’s car, a K7 tape was playing. While parking, my music began playing, and I had a thought: ”If someone asks, I will say that I don't remember where I recorded it!” The car shut down, the music stopped, and when we all left the car, our friend said: ”Wow, that last song was great. That was some cool bass right? Who played that sound?” I replied instantly, “I did it! There are some things to fix, but it is my first.” He praised it, but I did not take it very seriously and did not make any more songs. About 18 years later, in the middle of the pandemic, while taking a shower, I remembered the friend who was sad about that music. I am already 40 and tired from working in my profession for over 12 years, and I said to myself, “Why not try and see how the dance music scene is doing today?” I conducted extensive research, watched many videos producing different types of programs, and discovered several companies that distributed this music and decided to test what I had learned. I thought that if this sketch was good enough, it could work. To my surprise (good surprise this time, and in under six months), the song was really cool. This time, I had a lot of information that was easy to access and free, so the problems I had encountered during the creation, mixing, and mastering process were quickly resolved. With the increasing excitement, the desire to invest in musical knowledge grew more each day, and my growing love for dance music since childhood brought me here. I may have arrived a little late but the meaning of my nick is ”Non É Mai Troppo Tardi”, translating from Italian, It's Never Too Late.
