Distributed teams don't fail on time zones. They fail on the assumptions nobody wrote down. The distance that hurts isn't the hours between you, it's the context that never got shared.

An eval set is the cheapest insurance in AI engineering and the first thing teams skip. Fifty labeled examples you actually trust will teach you more than a month of vibes-based prompt tweaking.

Your AI feature works great at 10 requests. The real failures start at 10,000: rate limits, retries stacking, costs that stop being linear, latency nobody load-tested. Production is a different feature than the demo.

Before you greenlight a six month AI build, spend two weeks answering one question: what does this system do when it's wrong? If you can't answer that, you're not scoping a product, you're scoping a demo.

New 5-star review of No Silver on Rat Island: "a fantastic political allegory, with some of the best worldbuilding I've read in a while." It is a kids fable that teaches inflation and the Cantillon effect as a story, no equations. Where does your money's value quietly go?
