    P. Higgs never expected to become famous. In 1964, he proposed a solution to one of particle physics' biggest puzzles. Nearly 50 years later, the #HiggsBoson discovery earned him the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physics. Curiosity, patience and collaboration made it possible.

    In 1964, several physicists, including #Higgs, proposed an idea: a new field filling the Universe could explain why fundamental particles have mass. At the time, it was only a theory. It would take ~50 years before experiments at #CERN could finally test it.
