Ive seen the theory about “Nigerian business english” leaking in via RLHF, but apparently researchers in general still arent sure how these ticks arise within models!
Recently I’ve noticed Claude using strange keywords like “seam” and “chrome.”
It’s getting worse. It writes great code and understands its own language well, but they’re becoming barely human-readable.
I hope it’s just a glitch, but it looks suspiciously like vendor lock-in.
Just updated a very old spreadsheet. npm is serving over 260 billion downloads per month. I remember how excited we were to cross 100 million, way back at the start of this graph.
May was another record breaking month for total downloads on the npm registry overall. 661 billion total monthly downloads, up 4.8% from last month.
The insane March +35% increase hasn’t yet meaningfully regressed
