As international schools begin a new academic year, safeguarding leaders have an important opportunity to review child protection systems, strengthen staff training, and prepare for emerging risks affecting students. We asked Dan Furness, CIS Head of Safeguarding & Well-being, what school leaders should prioritise now.

Emerging technologies are changing how schools and universities teach, learn, lead, safeguard, and build their communities. Leaders in educational institutions are being asked to make important decisions about artificial intelligence and other technologies—often without clear answers about the risks, opportunities, or long-term social impacts. We launched a global taskforce to help.

What does strong multilingual learning look like in international schools? Drawing on findings from 299 CIS International Accreditation reports, we highlight four patterns of effective practice: whole-school commitment, clear multilingual pathways, integrated language and subject learning, and meaningful support for home languages.
