Your website photos may be carrying more than pixels. A photo can contain EXIF metadata such as: → camera model → date and time → editing software → sometimes even GPS coordinates Most visitors will never see this information. So should you remove it? For many websites, stripping EXIF data makes sense. It removes metadata you probably don’t need and can help avoid exposing private location information. But not always. Photographers may want to preserve camera settings. Publishers may rely on copyright information. Creative portfolios may intentionally keep that metadata. There isn’t one rule for every website. WordPress doesn’t block SVG uploads because it forgot about the format. It blocks them because an SVG can contain executable code. That’s the part many “just add this snippet” tutorials leave out. Adding SVG to the allowed MIME types can make the upload work, but it does nothing to sanitize what’s inside the file. You upload mountain-view.jpg. Then WordPress starts serving mountain-view-scaled.jpg. No plugin renamed it. Since WordPress 5.3, large uploads are automatically scaled down when they exceed the default 2560px threshold. But here’s the part many people miss: The original image is still on your server. And WordPress may need it later to generate new image sizes after a theme change, redesign, or plugin update.
