{"id":57165,"date":"2016-08-30T08:53:52","date_gmt":"2016-08-30T07:53:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/?p=57165"},"modified":"2016-08-30T10:05:43","modified_gmt":"2016-08-30T09:05:43","slug":"reaseheaths-record-rag-raises-funds-british-heart-foundation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/reaseheaths-record-rag-raises-funds-british-heart-foundation\/","title":{"rendered":"Reaseheath\u2019s record RAG raises funds for British Heart Foundation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Big hearted students and staff from Reaseheath College have raised a record breaking \u00a333,000 this year for local charities.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from the British Heart Foundation, the Student Association\u2019s chosen charity of the year, received a cheque for \u00a326,361 at the student summer ball which was held on the college\u2019s Nantwich campus. The final total was \u00a35,000 more than the original target.<\/p>\n<p>Students and staff have also raised an additional \u00a37,000 for other charities including the Poppy Appeal, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epilepsysociety.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">Epilepsy Society<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldaidsday.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">World Aids<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportrelief.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sport Relief<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Student Association (SA) members voted to fund raise for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhf.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">British Heart Foundation<\/a> because many had relatives who had been affected by heart problems. They are also aware that heart problems can affect apparently young, fit people.<\/p>\n<p>SA members organised over 100 fund raising events including a fashion show, foam party and activities at Reaseheath\u2019s Family Festival and lambing weekends. Individual staff completed fund raising challenges and \u00a0construction staff and students completed a Snowdon climb carrying 19 kilo hod of bricks.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, over 350 students have been trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with kits donated by the BHF as part of its \u2018Nation of Lifesavers\u2019 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Student Association RAG Chair Tom Allen, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reaseheath.ac.uk\/higher-education\/courses\/animal-management\/bsc-hons-wildlife-conservation-and-ecology\/\">BSc Wildlife Conservation and Ecology<\/a> undergraduate, said: \u201cI\u2019m very proud of the SA team, who worked really hard to put together a programme of activities which everyone could enjoy. We also had unbelievable support from all staff and students and from the British Heart Foundation itself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Bailey, Area Fundraising Manager for the North West said: \u201cThe British Heart Foundation is hugely grateful to the students and staff of Reaseheath College for raising such a phenomenal amount of money.\u00a0 I have never met a more inspirational group of young people. They have put so much focus and passion into their fundraising. This will make a huge difference to people across the north west who are supported by our charity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>British Heart Foundation is one of Britain\u2019s largest charities and funds research into improving treatment, diagnosis and prevention of heart and circulatory disease.
