cPanel VPS FAQ

cPanel is a web control panel used for server management. It provides a graphical interface and automation tools to simplify web server management and help users with the technical aspects of hosting one or multiple websites.

There are three ways to access cPanel: from your web host provider, from WHM, or directly from your browser.

  1. From your Liquid Web account, open the server dashboard by clicking the plus sign next to the server name. Select cPanel from the menu at the upper right-hand corner and log in.
  2. From the WHM home page, search for and select List Account. From your list of sites, click the cPanel icon and log in.
  3. From a web browser, navigate to https://host.YOURDOMAIN:2083 or https://YOURIPADDRESS:2083 and log in.

You can create as many subdomains as you want on a domain that you own. Creating subdomains is especially useful if you want to have an online store, blog, or forum.

  1. Log into your cPanel account
  2. Scroll to and select Domains
  3. Select Create a New Domain
  4. Type a name into the Domain name field
  5. Make sure the Share document root is unchecked
  6. Click Submit!

cPanel is not free. It requires a paid license to use, and the cost depends on the type of hosting environment and the number of accounts you need to manage. Some web hosting providers include cPanel in their hosting packages, especially for managed hosting plans.

If you already run a WordPress site, and you want to add cPanel, you will essentially be migrating your site. You’ll need:

  • A cPanel hosting account on the destination server.
  • An FTP client and FTP account set up.
  • File manager on the source and destination servers.
  • Access to phpMyAdmin on the source and destination servers.

WHM (WebHost Manager) is a tool that works alongside cPanel for server administrators, resellers, and hosting providers. It’s the interface that allows users to manage multiple cPanel accounts on a single server. 

While cPanel is the user-level interface for managing individual hosting accounts (for tasks like setting up websites, managing files, and handling email), WHM is the top-level interface that enables server admins or resellers to manage all the cPanel accounts on a server.
