Draw on anything
on your screen — live.

Screen Annotator Pro is a screen markup tool that puts a transparent overlay over your entire screen. Draw arrows, add callouts, blur sensitive data, measure pixels, record it all with your annotations baked in, and take annotated screenshots — without touching what's behind it. Activate with a hotkey, annotate, go.

Version 6.1 — what's new  ·  Windows 10 / 11  ·  x64  ·  Fully offline  ·  No subscription

Drawing an arrow, a label, a circle, a highlight and numbered callouts on a dashboard, sweeping the laser pointer, switching to click-through to change the page underneath while the marks stay, then recording it to MP4

The real app, not a mockup — everything above is rendered by Screen Annotator Pro itself.  ·  Open the 1080p MP4

A screen markup tool that never gets in the way.

✏️

Draw & Annotate

Arrows (straight, double and curved), lines, outlined and filled shapes, a pressure-sensitive pen, rulers, text, speech bubbles, ✓ ✗ ★ stamps, numbered callouts and highlights, all on a transparent overlay above anything on your screen. Move, resize, recolor or copy any mark after you draw it, and save your annotations to open them again later.

🔒

Redact

Gaussian blur, pixelate, or solid black-box redact any region before sharing a screenshot. The solid black box is the only truly safe option for passwords and personal IDs — blur can sometimes be reversed, solid fill cannot.

📷

Screenshot & Share

Hit Screenshot and the app hides the overlay, captures all monitors, and presents Copy to clipboard / Save PNG / Discard — your annotation baked into the image. The whole flow is under three seconds from hotkey to clipboard.

Present like a pro

A whiteboard and blackboard with pages, a spotlight, a magnifier that follows your cursor, a cursor halo, click ripples, on-screen shortcuts and fading ink. Pen pressure works on a Surface Pen or Wacom tablet.

🎬

Better recordings

Record your PC's sound along with your mic, add a webcam bubble, record a single window after a 3-2-1 countdown, and trim the video as soon as you stop. The install is also about two-thirds smaller.

⌨️

1. Activate

Press Ctrl+Shift+A from anywhere on your desktop. The transparent overlay appears instantly over all your windows and monitors. Nothing behind it is disturbed — your browser, IDE, video, or slide deck keeps running.

✏️

2. Annotate

Draw arrows, add numbered callouts, blur sensitive data, measure distances with the ruler — using the toolbar dock or keyboard shortcuts. Hold Shift for 45° snapping and perfect squares or circles.

📋

3. Capture or Continue

Hit Screenshot to bake your annotations into a clean PNG, copy it to the clipboard, and share immediately. Or leave the overlay up and keep presenting live — the Laser Pointer leaves no marks and hides the OS cursor.

Redact, read, measure and record — right on your screen.

Blurring an email address and phone number, pixelating an IBAN and blacking out a live API key on an account settings page

🔒 Redact in one drag

Blur, pixelate or black-box anything before it ends up in a screenshot, a meeting or a recording. Redactions are burned into every export and every recorded frame.

For passwords and IDs, use the solid black box — blur can sometimes be reversed, a solid fill cannot.

Snipping a paragraph off a slide shared in a video call and getting the recognized text in the OCR and Translate window

🔍 Snip & Read — text you can't select

Press J and drag over text you can't select — a shared screen in a video call, an image, a scanned PDF — and get it back as real text. Copy it, or translate it in one click.

Recognition uses the OCR built into Windows, so it works offline, instantly and in every language installed in Windows. Translation takes one click and opens Google Translate. How to copy text from your screen →

Measuring a headline and a gap with the ruler, boxing a button, placing numbered steps and underlining a word on a design mockup

📏 Measure, box and number

A ruler that labels pixel distances as you drag, boxes, numbered step markers, a freehand pen, and undo and redo for all of it. Hold Shift to snap to 45°.

Made for design reviews, layout debugging and step-by-step walkthroughs — and the Laser Pointer gives you a glowing dot that leaves no marks when you just need to point.

Everything you drew is painted into every recorded frame — the dock and HUD stay out of the video

🎥 Record it — marks baked in

Hit Record on the dock (or Ctrl+Alt+R) and every arrow, callout and blur is baked straight into the video at full resolution. Press it again and the MP4 is already on disk, with one-click export to GIF or WebM.

Record one monitor, all of them, a dragged-out area or a single window. Add your PC's sound, your microphone and a webcam bubble, then trim the clip as soon as you stop. Click-through mode (Ctrl+Shift+A) keeps your marks on screen while the mouse goes back to the app underneath — so you can keep demoing while you record.

🌓 Light and dark

Switch between Light and Dark in Settings, applied instantly. Double-click the dock's grip to collapse it to one draggable icon, click again to bring it back — it remembers where you left it.

Draw on your screen wherever you explain things.

Presentations & screen sharing

Circle the number that matters, arrow to the button, sweep the laser pointer — live in Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet. Click-through mode lets you keep driving the app while your marks stay up. Annotate your screen in Teams or Zoom →

Hiding sensitive data on calls

Blur an inbox, pixelate an IBAN or black-box an API key before your audience sees it — and it stays hidden in screenshots and recordings too. Blur sensitive info while screen sharing →

Tutorials, demos & bug reports

Teaching & design reviews

Mark up a slide, a spreadsheet or a web page during an online class, or measure spacing in pixels with the ruler during a design review — no screenshots, no switching apps.

Questions

How do I draw on my screen in Windows 10 or 11?

Install Screen Annotator Pro from the Microsoft Store, press Ctrl+Shift+A to switch into drawing mode, and pick a tool from the dock at the bottom of the screen (or press its key — A for arrow, P for pen, H for highlight). You draw on a transparent overlay above whatever is on screen; press Esc to click through to the apps underneath while your marks stay visible. Full guide.

Does it work over video calls and screen shares?

Yes. Because the overlay is a transparent always-on-top system window, your screen share tool (Zoom, Teams, Meet) captures the annotations along with your desktop. Your audience sees everything you draw in real time.

Does it interrupt running apps?

No. The overlay is fully transparent and non-interactive with what's behind it. Your video keeps playing, your IDE stays focused, your browser stays scrollable — the overlay only captures draw input.

Can I blur sensitive information while screen sharing?

Yes. Drag with the Blur (Z), Pixelate (X) or Black Box (D) tool over an email address, API key or customer record and it is hidden live — for your screen share, your screenshots and your recordings. For passwords and IDs use the solid black box, which cannot be reversed. Full guide.

Can I record my screen, not just screenshot it?

Yes. Press Record on the dock or Ctrl+Alt+R to capture your screen with every annotation baked into the video at full resolution. You can record one monitor, all of them, a dragged-out area or a single window, with your PC's sound, your microphone and a webcam bubble. When you stop, the MP4 is already on disk. You can trim it right away or export it to GIF or WebM in one click. Full guide.

Do I need an account?

No. $1.09 on sale through December 1 (regularly $2.99), one-time purchase through the Microsoft Store, no login, no cloud sync. Everything stays on your machine.

Does it work offline?

Yes, fully. Drawing, annotation, redaction, screenshots and recording all work without an internet connection. Snip & Read also runs offline, using the text recognition built into Windows. The only online feature is the optional translation, which opens Google Translate.

Does it work with a Surface Pen or Wacom tablet?

Yes. Since Version 6.1 lines get thicker the harder you press, and the eraser end of the pen erases. There's also a whiteboard and blackboard with pages (W) for drawing on a clean surface, which works well for teaching with a pen.

Which Windows versions and screen resolutions are supported?

Windows 10 (version 1903 or later) and Windows 11, x64. It works at any resolution — 1080p, 1440p, 4K and 8K — and at every display scaling setting from 100% to 400%, including fractional steps like 125% and 150%, across multiple monitors with different DPI. Desktop Window Manager must be enabled (default on all modern Windows).

We need to deploy across 50+ machines — is that possible?

Yes. The MSI installer supports silent installation via Group Policy or any software deployment tool (Intune, SCCM, PDQ). Contact [email protected] for volume pricing and a signed enterprise installer.
