Hi, I'm Herman, a 3rd-year PhD student at Stanford University. I'm fortunate to be advised by Tatsunori Hashimoto. I love hill climbing anything and everything. My research focuses on improving pretraining through better architecture and data efficiency. Lately, I've been thinking about higher-order gradients.
After high school, I moved to the Norwegian mountains to pursue biathlon professionally. Though my Olympic dreams are over, I've stayed active through running (training for a sub-9 3k), orienteering or XC skiing. When I'm not training, you'll find me playing board games like Blood on the Clocktower and Dune Imperium. I'm also an avid reader and aim to finish a book each week, so if you come across a great book about politics, history, psychology, economics or the human condition, please tell me about it!
