Why did you use WebAssembly to make a JavaScript package, instead of just writing JavaScript?

What about support for other languages, like Go, C, Zig, Python, etc.?
It has turned out that the architectural patterns used to make the WASM+JavaScript bindings is easier to do than anticipated. We will look into using this same pattern to make bindings for bindgen/cbindgen to create bindings to the Rust code for the C language. Since C is somewhat of a "universal standard" for programming language interoperability, these C bindings can then be used to generate libraries for ALL other programming languages. Note, that when we say "generate", we do NOT mean generative AI. There are programs, written by humans, that do this generation algorithmically and deterministically.

We have upgraded our polyproto Rust SDK into what is now the beginnings of a multi-language SDK! Using an early WebAssembly facade around the Rust crate, we could harness the power of wasm-bindgen to make a very early first version of a reference polyproto JavaScript implementation that you could start using today to help you build polyproto applications for the Web!

Simple language/TL;DR: The software written for polyproto to work in the programming language Rust now works in JavaScript too. A small helper lets the Rust code run in the browser. There's also an early JavaScript package that you can use to build polyproto web applications.

polyproto-core will be entering a temporary feature-freeze soon! ❄️ During the feature-freeze, no new functionality will be added to the core protocol. We will be using this time to take this spec document, which has been organically growing for a long time now, and making it much easier to read, understand and implement. The second big thing we are hoping to achieve through this is resolving underspecified areas and just cleaning up a good bit overall! blobcat_amused

And, because I am apparently unstoppable, I wrote and merged another PURR, which simplifies the creation of new sessions. An oversight during the addition of OIDC into polyproto made this much more complicated than it shouls have been. Not quite as exciting as this other PURR, but still neat! neocat__w_

Today we merged "PURR-2026-0020: Continuity: Network access with unavailable home server".
This protocol update formally defines how you can continue interacting with the polyproto network (for example, chat rooms) while your own home server is experiencing an outage.
Writing this down formally has been long overdue, but now, a solid initial version is finally part of the core protocol! neocat_polyproto 💜 fluffyTailFast

This blogpost is written quite hastily, which is because I allocated myself only 15 minutes to write it (ended up being 25, but who is counting!). I don't like writing blog posts because my thoughts are often a never ending stream of yapping, and combined with a degree of perfectionism, this makes me work on blog posts so long that I end up losing any interest in finishing them. But intentionally forcing myself to publish something very rough around the edges due to the artificial time constraint has helped! This was actually quite fun to write. A nice bonus of this being very unrefined is that it is also very authentic neocat_floof_cute
